PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of achieving low height design and space saving while keeping a stable installation state with a simple configuration.SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus 1 comprises: a document reader 3 arranged on the upper part of an apparatus body 2 and supported openably/closably around a predetermined rotating shaft relative to the apparatus body 2; and a document cover 4 supported openably/closably relative to the document reader 3. A first lock mechanism to lock the opening/closing of the document reader 3 relative to the apparatus body 2 and a second lock mechanism to lock the opening/closing of the document cover 4 relative to the document reader 3 are arranged in a housing 5 of the document reader 3. A document cover lock member 26 of the second lock mechanism allows the opening/closing of the document cover 4 by engaging/disengaging a hook 24 and allows the operation of an operation lever 14 by moving a link rod 13.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To open and close a shutter member on a developing apparatus side in response to attachment-detachment of a toner container.SOLUTION: A toner container 50 comprises: a container body 51 having a toner discharge port 511; a conveyance screw 52 for conveying toner; a shutter member for opening and closing the toner discharge port 511; and a first pressing plate 542 in contact with a developing shutter plate 62 of a developing device 33 in the assembling process of the toner container 50 to a container fitting part 61 of the developing device 33 and is configured so that it is assembled in the container fitting part 61 along the assembling direction and the shutter member of the toner container 50 is displaced associated with the assembling to open the toner discharge port 511. The first pressing plate 542 is contacted with the developing shutter plate 62 as the toner container 50 moves in the assembling direction in the assembling process to the container fitting part 61 and the developing shutter plate 62 is displaced from a closing position to an opening position.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a developing device and an image forming apparatus having a structure for appropriately connecting the developing device and a container with each other.SOLUTION: The developing device of the present invention includes: a housing having a connection surface which is connected to a container, and is provided with a supply port for supplying developer; and a shutter mechanism for selectively opening/closing the supply port. The shutter mechanism includes: a shutter piece which moves between a closing position where the supply port is closed and an opening position where the supply port is opened; and a push-in mechanism which protrudes from the shutter piece at the closing position, and pushes the developer into the housing, through the supply port.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a developing device that suppresses variation in the amount of toner supplied from a toner container in association with decrease in developer in a retaining unit even when the amount of toner in the toner container changes.SOLUTION: A first conveyance capability suppressing unit 26 forms a retaining unit 27 at a position facing a toner supply port 25. Depending on the amount of toner in the retaining unit 27, the amount of toner flowing into a developing housing 210 from a toner container 30 is adjusted. The inflow amount of supply toner easily varies with the amount of the supply toner remaining in the toner container 30. Even when the toner container 30 is replaced and a large amount of toner tends to easily flow into the developing housing 210, the upstream side in a conveyance direction of the toner supply port 25 is sealed by an upstream-side retaining unit 29 formed by a suppressing paddle 28, and thereby excessive inflow of the supply toner is suppressed.

A developing device 33 comprises: a developing housing 60 including a container attachment part 61; a gear holder 65 which includes an output gear 651 which rotates by receiving rotary drive force from a motor and can be displaced to an engaging position in which the output gear 651 is engaged with the container gear 52G and a retreat position to retreat from the position to the outside; and a biasing spring. The container body 51 has a second pressing plate 544 and the gear holder 65 has a contact part 653 in contact with the second pressing plate 544. The second pressing plate 544 and the contact part 653 are constructed so that the gear holder 65 is displaced from an engaging position to a retreat position as the toner container 50 moves in the assembling process and the gear holder 65 is returned to the engaging position by biasing force of the biasing spring when achieving a predetermined assembling position.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a development device from being removed from a body housing in a state that a toner container is attached to the body housing.SOLUTION: A shutter member 451 of a development device 400 comprises a first engaging piece 454A, and a toner recovery container 500 comprises a second engaging piece 510. In a state that the toner container is attached to a body housing (development device 400), in other words, when the shutter member 451 is in an open attitude, the first engaging piece 454A and the second engaging piece 510 engage with each other, and the toner container cannot be removed from the body housing. Meanwhile, when the toner container is removed from the body housing and the shutter member 451 is in a closed attitude, the engagement of the first engaging piece 454A and the second engaging piece 510 is released, thereby making the toner container removable from the body housing.
