Abstract: PURPOSE: To provide a device for starting a turbine, particularly a gas turbine, using an ac generator having a rotor assembly with a permanent magnet type first rotor and a single-pole second rotor and having a common stator with an output rotor which surrounds both of the rotors and with at least one exciting coil opposed to the single-pole rotor. CONSTITUTION: An ac generator 5 is freely rotationally connected to a turbine 1 and an output coil is connected to a power supply 9 when the turbine is started from zero speed to an autonomous speed, and is connected to a load 7 when the turbine reaches the autonomous speed.
