Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stably maintain electric discharge state of each cell, reduce data quantity which a driving circuit shares, and enable designing by ordinary elements by independently driving a split screen. SOLUTION: In the case of four-piece splitting, for example, a common electrode 103 of a transverse electrode and a scanning electrode 102 parallel thereto are split horizontally by a bulkhead 116, and a data electrode 101 of a vertical electrode is vertically split at a substantial center part. That is, the transverse electrode and an insulation film formed on a surface thereof are horizontally split into two sections by the bulkhead 116 and are vertically split into two sections similarly, and a total of four divisions are achieved. Thereby, in comparison with when a single driving circuit is driven, a period of maintenance pluses increases, and necessary time at the maintenance pulse period to be constantly discharged is reduced. Since there is much pixels on a large-sized screen, expensive high-speed elements such as gallium arsenide is necessary, however, regular flip-flop can be used by screen division, and a serial-parallel converting circuit can be achieved.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a plasma display panel arranged in such a manner that a large-sized screen of the plasma display panel can be designed by common and ordinal elements. SOLUTION: The large-sized screen of the plasma display panel is divided such that the divided screens can be simultaneously driven in parallel. The amount of the data shared by holding circuits for holding the discharge state of respective cells is thereby reduced and therefore the designing even by the use of the common and ordinal elements is made possible. Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase a discharge time of a cell even when a scanning time is reduced and to improve luminance and contrast of a plasma display panel(PDP) by dividing a field to plural sub-fields, connecting plural sub-fields with different discharge times and scanning without providing a discharge rest period in-between. SOLUTION: Data electrodes are arranged perpendicular to common electrodes and scan electrodes arranged parallel to each other between substrates, and the cells are constituted of crossing parts between the common electrodes, scan electrodes and the data electrodes. Then, respective cells start discharge when a scan pulse and a data pulse are applied to respective cells. At this time, one field is divided to plural sub-fields, and plural sub-fields with different discharge times are connected, and the scanning is performed without providing the discharge rest period in-between. That is, when an upper bit for the sub-field 1 is turned on, and a lower bit for the sub-field 2 is turned off, order between the upper bit and the lower bit is exchanged, and the lower bit is executed first, and an erase pulse is applied on a track 1.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for driving an AC-type Plasma Display Panel (PDP), and more particularly, to the improvement of the brightness and contrast of the panel by reducing the time of scanning while increasing the discharge time of cells. Accordingly, the video signal of the present invention is designed to change, as needed, the sequential order of two bits, to insert appropriate erasing pulses into vertical electrodes according to the sequential order of the two bits, and to select the erasing time of each cell being connected to horizontal electrodes, thus enable the combination of any two or a plurality of subfields to reduce the time of scanning while increasing the discharging time of the cells.

A cell is at the intersection where the common electrode and the scanning electrode intersect with the data electrode. The data electrode is divided for the purpose of dividing a screen.
