Abstract: A mobile terminal including a wireless communication unit configured to perform wireless communication, a touch screen display unit configured to switch between an inactivated state in which illumination is not applied to the display unit and an activated state in which illumination is applied to the display unit and a controller configured to: sense a plurality of touch inputs on the display unit when the display unit is in the inactivated state and no illumination is applied to the display unit, and release a locked state of the mobile terminal and switch the display unit to the activated state in which illumination is applied to the display unit, when the plurality of touch inputs match a predetermined pattern.

Abstract: A mobile terminal, comprising: a display; a touch sensor configured to sense taps applied to the display; and a controller configured to: activate the display and periodically drive the touch sensor with a second period shorter than a first period, if a first tap input to the touch sensor is detected in a state of the display being deactivated and the touch sensor being periodically driven with the first period and subsequently a second tap input to the touch sensor satisfying pre-set conditions is detected in a state of the display being deactivated, wherein the pre-set conditions require the second tap input to be applied to the touch sensor within a predetermined region within a predefined period of time, the predetermined region being defined to correspond to the first tap input, and maintain the state of the display being deactivated and periodically drive the touch sensor with the first period, if the second tap input fails to satisfy the pre-set conditions.

Abstract: A mobile terminal comprising: a display unit (151); a touch sensor (140) configured to sense a tap applied to the display unit (151); and a controller (180) configured to control at least one of functions executable in the mobile terminal (100) when a tap corresponding to a pre-set scheme is applied to the display unit (151), wherein the touch sensor (140) is formed to sense the tap by using different schemes in an activated state or deactivated state of the display unit (151), wherein the controller (180) is configured to: control the touch sensor (140) to periodically drive with a first period when the display unit (151) is in the activated state in which an illumination of the display unit (151) is turned on, control the touch sensor (140) to periodically drive with a second period which is different from the first period, when the display unit is in the deactivated state in which the illumination of the display unit (151) is turned off, if a first tap is applied on the touch sensor (140), calculate a predetermined region from the spot in which the first tap was sensed, and if a second tap applied to the predetermined region is sensed within a preset period of time after the first tap was sensed, determine that the tap corresponds to said pre-set scheme, and if the tap corresponding to said pre-set scheme is sensed when the display unit (151) is in a deactivated state, switch the display unit (151) into an activated state.
