Abstract: Recycling coated or laminated moulded prods. (I) based on binder-contg. cellulose or lignocellulose materials e.g. interior linings from old cars, industrial scrap etc. comprises (a) crushing (I) to give a particulate mixt. of substrate, coating, lamination and any plastic parts (II), (b) adding a binder, (c) placing the mixt. between alternate layers of nonwoven fibre material (III) to give a multi-coated intermediate mat in the form of a strip, (d) cutting the strip into blanks, (e) hot-press moulding the blanks to form substrates etc. for car linings etc. by (f) subsequent coating and/or lamination. Crushed mixt. (II) from stage (a) has particle dia. 30 microns-6 mm. and is treated with 2-20 wt.% binder, using a mixt. of thermoplastic and thermosetting binder, pref. in the form of dry phenolic resin powder, at least 4 layers of (II)/binder are interposed between at least 5 layers of fibre (III) with layers of (III) on the outside to give a mat contg. below 25 wt.% fibre, fibre material (III) has unit wt. 8-100 g/m2, and pref. consists of PP, PE, polyester, viscose and/or polyamide fibre, different materials (III) can be used (w.r.t. type of material and unit wt.) and the intermediate strip is rolled up for storage, mixt. (II) can contain material from interior linings which have been recycled different nos. of times. USE/ADVANTAGE - The process enables interior lining parts of scrapped or crashed cars to be recycled repeatedly with no significant deterioration in product quality or prodn. conditions.

Abstract: To produce moulded sections of the same wall thickness, using mixtures of cellulose and/or lignocellulose fibres with more than 20 wt.% of thermal bonding agent, the fibres are initially given a surface preparation to form a slightly compressed fibre matting in sections or as a web, before the bonding agent is applied. The material is heated at least pref. to the softening temp. of the bonding agent, and then compressed to a density for the duration of the crosslinking of the fibre preparation. The heated and compressed material is placed in a press mould at a lower temp. than the material, to be pressed into shape. The bonding material is pref. polypropylene fibres, and phenol resin is used for the fibre preparation. Polyurethane can also be used according to fibre type.
