    Abstract: A compressive load carrying laminated bearing comprising alternating bonded layers of a resilient material and a nonextensible material generally concentrically disposed about a common center with successive layers being disposed at successively increasing radii. The fatigue life thereof, when subjected to cylic rotational or torsional motion about the common center, is substantially enhanced by progressively increasing the thickness of the layers of resilient material with increasing radii while simultaneously progressively decreasing the modulus of elasticity of the layers of resilient material with increasing radii.

    Abstract: A rotor blade retention system is provided wherein a pair of serially arranged elastomeric bearing means comprising a plurality of alternating and bonded layers of rigid and elastomeric material restrain movement of the blade against centrifugal forces imposed thereon while permitting and sharing movement of the blade about one or more axes including the pitch axis. The layers of each bearing are oriented to be loaded at least partially in compression normal thereto in response to centrifugal forces on the blade and to be loaded torsionally and/or in shear along the layers in response to movement of the blade about other axes including the pitch axis. Preferably, structural connections of the bearings between the rotor hub and blade are made partially through the bearings for more efficient utilization of structural members and for reduced drag or aerodynamic resistance.

    Abstract: A damping device which provides superior damping stiffness K" has linear damping characteristics as a function of amplitude and for which the temperature sensitivities of stiffnesses K*, K", K' have been minimized. The device includes a first and second fluid-filled chambers (26 and 28) which are interconnected by a passageway (43). The length and diameter of the passageway, as well as the fluid viscosity, are chosen to give the optimum damping characteristics. Further, a plurality of spring loaded pressure relief valves (82) are integrated into the assembly to allow more flow area to open when a threshold pressure is encountered, thereby reducing the internal pressures and dynamic stiffness K* at cold temperatures.
