Abstract: This invention relates to lubricants for two-cycle engines comprising a major amount of at least one oil of lubricating viscosity and a minor amount of at least one compound of the general formula Ay-My+(I) wherein M represents one or more metal ions, y is the total valence of all M and A represents one or more anion containing groups having a total of about y individual anionic moieties and each anion containing group is a group of the formula (* CHEMICAL STRUCTURE *) (II) wherein T is selected from the group consisting of (* CHEMICAL STRUCTURE *) (V) or (* CHEMICAL STRUCTURE *) (VI) Additive concentrates and lubricant-fuel mixtures for two cycle engines are also disclosed as well as methods for operating two-cycle engines.

Abstract: This invention relates to combinations of (A) organometallic complexes and (B) antioxidants. These combinations can be used in diesel fuels for operating diesel engines equipped with exhaust system particulate traps. The combination of (A) and (B) is useful in lowering the ignition temperature of exhaust particles collected in the trap. The organometallic complex (A) is soluble or stably dispersible in the diesel fuel and is derived from (i) an organic compound containing at least two functional groups attached to a hydrocarbon linkage, and (ii) a metal reactant capable of forming a complex with the organic compound (i), the metal being any metal capable of reducing the ignition temperature of the exhaust particles. The functional groups include =X, -XR, -NR2, -NO2, =NR, =NXR, =N-R*-XR, -CN, -N=NR and -N=CR2; wherein X is O or S, R is H or hydrocarbyl, R* is hydrocarbylene or hydrocarbylidene, and a is a number (e.g., zero to about 10). Useful metals include Na, K, Mg, Ca, Sr, Ba, V, Cr, Fe, Co, Cu, Zn, Pb, Sb, and mixtures of two or more thereof. This invention is also directed to concentrates and diesel fuels, and to methods of operating a diesel engine equipped with an exhaust system particulate trap.

Abstract: The present invention includes a composition which comprises a major amount of an oil of lubricating viscosity and a minor amount effective to inhibit metal corrosion of a soluble additive mixture comprising (A) at least one amide compound of a mono- or polycarboxylic acid or reactive derivative thereof; and (B) at least about 0.1 mole of at least one amine per mole of amide, provided that when (A) is an amide of a dicarboxylic acid and the amine is an alkanol amine, the mixture contains more than 0.5 equivalent of the amine (B) per equivalent of amide (A). The compositions of the invention exhibit improved corrosion-inhibiting properties and the compositions are useful in a variety of lubrication applications. In particular the compositions are useful as hydraulic fluids.

Abstract: Coupled polyamine additives for lubricants, fuels and functional fluids have been discovered. The coupled polyamines are prepared by the cyclization reaction of at least one reactant polyamine reactant with at least one hydrocarbyl polynitrile. This coupled polyamine may be further reacted with a hydrocarbyl carboxylic acid or derivative thereof, a hydrocarbyl phenolic reactant or mixtures thereof to provide an additive having greater oil solubility as well as imparting disperancy and VI improvement.
