Abstract: This invention is directed to phosphorus and/or nitrogen-containing derivative compositions of sulfur containing compounds which are suitable particularly for use as additives for lubricants, fuels and functional fluids. The lubricants, fuels, and/or functional fluids containing the derivatives of this invention exhibit improved anti-wear, extreme pressure and antioxidant properties.

Abstract: This invention relates to lubricating compositions containing hydroxyalkane phosphonic acids and derivatives thereof. Hydroxyalkane phosponic acids in the present invention can be reacted to form salts with basic materials, including detergents, dispersants and amines. These materials can be particularly useful in lubricating compositions to improve anti-wear and extreme pressure properties of lubricating formulations. The hydroxyalkane phosphonic acid is represented by the following formula: wherein Y is a phosphonic acid group or hydrogen, and R is alkyl from 1 to about 100 carbon atoms.

Abstract: A process for producing a sulfurized olefin product substantially free of ash containing waste is disclosed. The process involves dehydrohalogenation of an olefin/sulfur halide complex by contacting the complex with a protic solvent in the absence of any metal ion. The process allows for the solvolytic dehydrohalogenation of the complex. The sulfurized olefin product obtained is isolated and may be subjected to further processing to remove any remaining halides. The resulting sulfurized olefin is a useful additive in lubricating oils.
