OIL-SOLUBLE COMPOSITION PRODUCED BY REACTING AT LEAST ONE HIGH MOLECULAR WEIGHT POLYCRBOXYLIC ACID ACYLATING AGENT WITH AT LEAST ONE EQUIVALENT OF A POLYHYDRIC ALCOHOL TO FORM A FIRST REACTION MIXTURE WHICH IS THEN CONTACTED WITH A HYDROXY-SUBSTITUTED PRIMARY AMINE. THE RESULTING PRODUCTS ARE USEFUL PRIMARILY AS LUBRICANT AND FUEL ADDITIVES. AN OIL-SOLUBLE COMPOSITION PREPARED BY REACTING POLYISOBUTENYL-SUCCINIC ANHYDRIDE WITH A POLYHYDRIC LOWER ALKANOL TO FORM A FIRST REACTION MIXTURE WHICH IS THEN CONTACTED WITH TRSIMETHYLOLAMINOMETHAN E IS REPRESENTATIVE.

OIL-SOLUBLE COMPOSITIONS PRODUCED BY REACTING POLYCARBOXYLIC ACID ACYLATING AGENTS HAVING AT LEAST FIFTY ALIPHATIC CARBON ATOMS WITH A DI- OR TRIHYDRIC ALCOHOL AND A POLYHYDRIC ALCOHOL HAVING AT LEAST FOUR HYDROXYL GROUPS ARE USEFUL AS ASHLESS DISPERSANTS IN LUBRICANTS AND FUELS. POLYOLEFIN-SUBSTITUTED SUCCINIC ANHYDRIDE SIMULTANEOUSLY TREATED WITH A MIXTURE OF TRISMETHYLOLPROPANE AND PENTAERYTHRITOL PRODUCES SUCH AN OIL-SOLUBLE COMPOSITION.
Abstract:
N-substituted morpholines of the formula O(CH2CH2)2NR'YR'', wherein R' is a divalent organic radical of at least one to about 30 carbon atoms, Y is -O-, -S-, , or -NR3-, R3 is a hydrogen atom or a hydrocarbyl radical of at least one carbon atom and R" is a monovalent hydrocarbon radical of at least fifteen carbon atoms, are useful as additives for lubricants. Particularly preferred embodiments of the invention include those wherein Y is , R' is 1,3-propylene and R" is a hydrocarbyl group of at least about forty carbon atoms.
