    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an optical fiber coated with coating having a high modulus of elasticity and high heat characteristics for easy removal from the optical fiber by applying protective coating having the room temperature modulus of elasticity of a specific value and high temperature release layer resistance of below specific % of the room temperature release layer resistance. SOLUTION: A preform is supplied to a furnace and as the preform passes the furnace, a glass fiber 12 is drawn from a molten material. After the glass fiber 12 is drawn from the molten material, two layers of the protective coating systems consisting of a radiation curing high-polymer material are applied to the glass fiber 12. The inside layer 14 comes into contact with the glass fiber 12 at the boundary 13 between the glass and the coating and is called as a primary coating. The outer layer 15 is called as the secondary coating and encloses the inner layer 14. The primary coating of the high-polymer material has the on-site modulus of elasticity within a range from 9 to 500 psi at 20 deg.C and has the first release layer resistance at 20 deg.C and the second release layer resistance at a temperature within a range of 100 to 2000 deg.C below 40% of the first release layer resistance.
