Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely and easily recover transfer of a signal by setting a plurality of paths explicitly instructed between a source and a receiver side router and allowing the receiver side router to select one of the paths instructed explicitly as a primary path, to make communication along the selected path and to immediately select a secondary path as a new primary path on the occurrence of a fault in the primary path. SOLUTION: A node S makes communication to a node E by using a plurality of explicit label switching path indication paths in existence between the nodes S and E. Using a label distribution protocol can assist setting of a label switching path LSP on the basis of a restriction condition of the explicit path instruction. The restriction condition of an explicit path instruction provides an inter-termination setup device with a method that uses a label distribution protocol of the LSP with an instructed path on the basis of a restriction condition started by an input LSR top reserve a resource. A plurality of the explicit path instruction label switching path is set between the router LSRS and an LSRE.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical communication system, that can automatically find out port-to-port connectivity information, that is, port binding information without the need for converting from optical signaling into electrical signaling. SOLUTION: One of a group of optical network elements making communication via an out of band channel, such as a LAN is selected as a network element leader. After the selection, the leader network element adjusts a port discovery process, requests port recognition, replies to a request, and other message is transmitted via the network element leader on the out of band channel from one non-leader network element to others. When the leader network element sets up a recognition process, a recognition request network element transmits an optical test signal to all the other networks along a link in question.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and method for automatically deciding port identification in a heterogeneous electrical communication system. SOLUTION: This heterogeneous electrical communication system uses 'out- of-band' signaling for automatically finding the identification of two ports for connecting two network elements through a specific link. One of the connected network elements consists of circuit exchange network elements and the other consists of packet exchange network elements. The one network element starts a port finding process and sends an overhand signal, such as a SONET/SDH protection switching message to a network element connected to the other end of a link. When the other network element monitors the states of its own ports and detects the change of a state as the result of transmission from the first network element at one place of these ports, the receiving side of this, that is a passive network element, identifies the port to be a port forming part of a concerned link. Each group of the packet exchange network elements and the circuit exchange network elements selects a network element leader for adjusting a request port identification.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a method for identifying and discovering automatic ports used in different systems. SOLUTION: Net elements used in a different electric of communication system use an 'out-band' signaling for automatically discovering an identification of two ports for connecting the two network elements via a certain specific link. Either of the connected elements has a circuit-switched network element, and the other has a packet-switched network element. The method for identifying and discovering the automatic port used in the different system comprises the steps of starting a port discovering process by the one element, and sending a SONET/SDH overhead signal to the element connected to another end of the link; the steps of monitoring the states of a plurality of ports of itself by another element, and identifying that the port forms a part of the link of interest of the port on the reception side, i.e., the passive network element when a change in the state as a result of a transmission from the first element is detected at one of these ports.

Abstract: A telecommunications system includes a convergence protocol that provides direct inter-layer communications between nodes within the network. The transport layer of one network node may communicate directly with the servic e layer of another network node. The service layer may be configured as an internet protocol (IP) layer, which may employ asynchronous transfer mode switching, and the transport layer may be a SONET transport layer. Each of the nodes that runs the convergence protocol may be a telecommunications element such as an add-drop-multiplexer (ADM) or a digital cross connect. SONET bandwidth provisioning may be accomplished through the inter-element, inter-layer communications of the convergence protocol.
