Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To comprise both AC and DC voltages and to achieve the bi- directional four-quadrant power flow by operating a bi-directional switch during one portion of the switching cycle of an AC voltage, which is connected between the input and output of a four-quadrant inverter, thereby changing the voltage of an output waveform. SOLUTION: A main bi-directional switch Sa with first and second uni-directional switches Sw1 and Sw2 are connected between the input and output of a four-quadrant inverter 150. Also, a controller 160 that is connected to an auxiliary bi-directional switch Sb and the main bi-directional switch Sa with third and fourth uni-directional switches Sw3 and Sw4 of the four-quadrant inverter 150 operates Sa and Sb so that the input and output of the four- quadrant inverter 150 can be connected during the main period or the auxiliary period of the switching cycle of the AC voltage. therefore, by adjusting the continuity period of the main and auxiliary bi-directional switches Sa and Sb, the AC output voltage of the AC output waveform can be changed.
