    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To identify the position of a mobile equipment caller in a cellular service area under various RF propagation conditions. SOLUTION: This method identifies the geographic position of a mobile terminal 30. The technology includes a step for receiving the characteristics of a set from the terminal 30, a step for comparing the characteristics of the set received from the terminal 30 with the attributes of the set for each cell and a step for identifying one of subcells having attributes most coincident with the characteristics of the set out of plural subcells as a subcell located on the terminal 30. Discrete RF attributes such as average pilot intensity, chip offset and pilog intensity are included in the attributes of the set. A continuous attribute such as a signature waveform can be also used as an attribute of the set.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable communication of a multi-media message between various kinds of communication devices and access networks by providing a step for generating a generalized message and a step for transmitting at least one multi- media message of the generalized message. SOLUTION: At first, a multi-media message which is intends by a user A to be transmitted to a user B is constructed (generated) (S100). Next, a network element receives the multi-media message from the user A (S200). Then, the network element generates a generalized message (S300). Furthermore, a user B is informed of the fact that a generalized message stored in the network element exists (S400). The user B requests takeout (retrieval) of the stored message (S500). Finally, the network element transmits the multi-media message component that is a generalized message to the user B (S600).

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device which expand the network performance of a radio network by utilizing generally obtainable geographic position information. SOLUTION: This method is for expanding the network performance of the radio network and consists of a step in which the current position of a mobile device in the radio network is decided and a step in which the network performance of the radio network is expanded by utilizing the current position of the mobile device. For more detailed information, signal quality in an area where calls are discarded is improved by deciding the area where the calls are discarded due to the use of the geographical position information. An intelligent antenna is further formed by utilizing the geographic position information for beam steering so that capacity increase and interference reduction can be accomplished. They can also be accomplished by utilizing the geographic position information in a down tilt technique.

    Abstract: Network performance of a wireless network is enhanced by using geolocation information. The network enhancement may be achieved by determining call-dropping zones by the use geolocation information and by improving the signal quality in these call-dropping zones. The network enhancement may also be achieved in the form of increased capacity and reduced interference by utilizing geolocation information in beam steering and shaping of intelligent antennas. Rather than having antennas passively steering and shaping their beams in terms of the rays coming directly from mobiles or reflected by objects, geolocation information may be used to steer the beams (i.e., when antennas are adaptive) or select particular beams (i.e., when antennas are fixed-beam). In addition, the network enhancement may be achieved by using geolocation information in downtilt technology. The network enhancement may be further achieved by using geolocation information to reduce mobile registration requirements. The network enhancement may be also achieved by better managing the power level of a mobile. Additionally, the network enhancement may be achieved by enhancing load-balancing capabilities in a wireless system by the use of geolocation information.
