Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a waveguide laser and an amplifier wherein output power of the laser or the amplifier and response of a transmitter or a receiver which use the laser or the amplifier are not changed and temperature stability is improved. SOLUTION: The waveguide laser or the amplifier which has peak absorbing wavelength is provided with a pump discharging apparatus having a wavelength which is canceled intentionally from the peak absorbing wavelength. The canceled wavelength of the discharging apparatus is selected for improving temperature stability of the laser or the amplifier. In a representative embodiment, the laser or the amplifier is excited by binominal distribution of the discharging apparatus.
