    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To transmit comfortable noise during a mute period and to precisely measure interference in allocating a channel to a new call by continuing a step for substituting a long message in a time slot for an abbreviated message. SOLUTION: When the time slots 1 and 2 do not transmit the message in the mute period, 324 bits associated with the slots are transmitted. When a communication channel in a time slot 3 is in the mute period, slight information of 80 bits is transmitted during the time slot. It is shown by the area 60 of the respective time slots 3. Thus, the slight part of the time slot 3 is used for actual transmission and transmission is not executed in a remaining part. Thus, power is reduced and common channel interference is reduced. The width of an area 60 can be increased/decreased by transmitting much more bits or transmitting few bits.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the capability of hybrid inner/outer sectoring cell, without increasing cost and antennas by allocating existing sector antennas to a base station-side used for the sectors of outer communication cover areas for generating a nondirectional inner communication cover area. SOLUTION: A hybrid inner/outer sectoring cell 100 is constituted of inner/ outer communication cover areas 112/114 which are obtained by dividing it into an omnisector structure 112 and sectors 116, 118 and 120. Moving auxiliary hand-off is used without digital movement for hand-off between the sectors of the sectoring cell 100 and between the sectoring cells 100. The base station of the sectoring cell 100 communicates the signal of the cover area 112 with three existing nondirectional sector antennas at the same time which the base station uses for the cover areas 114. Thus, the increase in cost and space are eliminated by the use of the existing antennas.

The new cell generates a list of candidate channels corresponding to the channels with the greatest signal strength and transmits the list to the mobile switching center (MSC) of the cellular system. The MSC determines which of the candidate channels correspond to beacons in existing cells and transmits configuration information to the new cell for those corresponding existing cells. In this way, the new cell automatically receives configuration information on its neighbor cells. If the MSC determines that the number of candidate channels that are beacons is too small, the MSC will ask the new cell to transmit additional candidate channels (i.e., those having even lower signal strength).
