    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize excellent phase accuracy by an optional spectral shaping under the limitation of a constant envelope signal. SOLUTION: A modulation oscillator is made up of a voltage controlled oscillator 43, a detector 41, and a reference oscillator 40. A phase locked loop is formed by providing an output of a voltage denoting a difference of frequencies or phases of outputs of the voltage controlled oscillator 43 and the reference oscillator 40. The modulation oscillator has a phase modulation means 71 that corrects a feedback signal of the phase locked loop in response to a signal given to a modulator input 72. The corrected feedback signal is given to the modulation input 72 to directly modulate a radio frequency output of the voltage controlled oscillator 43. The accumulated phase of the radio frequency output modulated by the voltage controlled oscillator 43 is limited to a prescribed range (e.g. 2π). An RF output of the modulation oscillator is able to be directly connected to an antenna 44.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To protect a communication system and other system sensitive to lightning sensitize system lightning against the lightning. SOLUTION: At least the power portion of a transmitter and the receiver front end of a base station for a radio communication system are typically arranged on the main portion top of a tower or other elevated position together with an antenna. However, such arrangement on the same place exposes an electronic circuit to lighting damages. This can be avoided by arranging the electronic circuit and an antenna 101 in a lightning protection device which is transparent against a radio frequency radiation in the state of non-lighting and which becomes a Faraday cage during lighting strobe, and the lighting protection device returns to a transparent state at the termination time of the stroke. This can be attained by arranging the electronic circuit and the antenna inside an outer covering which contains dielectric small chambers 11, 12 filled with ionizable gas contact with electrodes 14, 15, between which current can flow during the lighting shock as the selected result.
