Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wavelength division multiplex(WDM) network that provides seamless connection performance from a long distance network to a metropolitan area network, to an access network and finally to a desktop of a user. SOLUTION: A WDM ring architecture includes a central node 102 that generates a plurality of WDM signals with a plurality of continuous wave (non modulation) optical wavelengths, which are sent to a plurality of access nodes 111, 112, 113, 114 of the system via an optical facility. One or two or over of the non modulation optical wavelength are separated from the WDM signal received via the optical facility, modulated by a user's or customer's signal and multiplexed on the WDM signal on the optical facility.

Abstract: A Wavelength Division Multiplexed (WDM) ring architecture includes central node which generates a plurality of continuous wave (unmodulated) optical wavelengths which are sent as a WDM signal over an optical facility to a plurality of access nodes of the system. At the access nodes, one or more of these unmodulated optical wavelengths are demultiplexed from the WDM signal received over the optical facility and modulated with the user's or customer's signals and then multiplexed to the WDM signal on the optical facility.
