Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical fiber monitoring device for monitoring and testing which is fit in size for a targeted optical fiber, in the shell of frame of an optical fiber control system. SOLUTION: The device has a fixing plate 22 having a surface, and further an optical lead wire 20 connected to an input optical fiber through a connector array 6 is optically coupled on a targeted point on the surface of the fixing plate 22. A motor 26 on the contrary of the fixing plate 22 selectively rotates an armature 32 attached to the shaft, a light receiving element 34 disposed on the armature 32 is moved by the motor 26 to perform optical position alignment with each targeted point on the surface of the fixing plate 22. When each targeted point on the surface of the fixing plate 22 is aligned with the light receiving element by means of the armature 32, a signal from the input optical fiber is optically coupled to a photoelectric converter 44 optically coupled to the light receiving element 34 on the armature.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an intelligent optical transmitter module to be used to produce optical test signals. SOLUTION: The optical transmitter module is provided with a solid-state laser and a microprocessor. The solid-state laser produces the test signals to be used for testing optical fibers in an optical fiber network. The laser is monitored and controlled by the microprocessor. In one embodiment, backface monitoring and optical output coupling power monitoring (using an optical tap) are accomplished within the module to more exactly reflect the state of the laser. The microprocessor reads data on the performance of the solid-state laser outputted to another controller. A controller uses the data from the microprocessor for analyzing an optical fiber loop condition and analyzing the laser itself. The microprocessor can control the output level of the solid-state laser by a digital/analog converter. Further, the test signal outputted from the module may be composed of a pulse train or a continuous wave as well.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a module that is used for an optical fiber management system or an exclusive system. SOLUTION: The module has an optical transmitter and an optical monitor, transmits a test signal through an optical fiber network and receives the same signal through different fibers in the optical fiber network. The maintainability of various paths of the optical fiber network can be spatially and efficiently discriminated through transmission/reception of the test signal. The module is provided also with a microprocessor which reads data with respect to the test signal as it is transmitted and reads the same test signal as it is received. The data may be read by an external shelf controller. The shelf controller utilizes the data from the microprocessor for the analysis with respect to a loop state of the optical fiber as well as a laser.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a monitor module to be used for detecting an optical test signal propagated through the optical fiber of an optical fiber network. SOLUTION: The monitor module has a size such that it can be housed in the monitor shelf of a fiber managing system. The monitor module includes an optical detector which detects an optical signal from outside and converts the detected signal into a corresponding electronic signal. After that, the electronic signal is amplified and linearized by a microprocessor and read by the microprocessor. After that, the signal is sent to an external shelf controller. In this case, the signal is used for judging the optical performance of the optical fiber connected to the monitor module.
