Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a laser system where the wavelength is stabilized to economically and easily replace a laser chip. SOLUTION: A laser chip and a memory device are provided in a package other than a laser control system. The package can be easily replaced when the laser chip should be replaced. The memory device stores an operation parameter required for related laser chips, and gives necessary correction values and operation data to the control system, thus easily and quickly updating the operation of a new laser chip by the control system.

Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for separating the memory and control functions in a wavelength stabilized laser control system. A laser chip and a memory device are provided in a separate package from the laser control system that can be easily removed when the laser chip requires replacement. The memory device stores the necessary operating data for its associated laser chip and provides the control system any necessary calibration and operating data so the control system can easily and quickly update operation for the new laser chip.
