Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical module, including a stack for optical fiber ribbons in a buffer holder. SOLUTION: This optical module is rectangular. A sheath protects all side faces of a stack 32a. In some optical modules 30a, the stacks 32a can be moved relatively to the sheath, and optical fiber ribbons 34 can be moved relatively to each other. The sheath is sufficiently flexible so that optical fiber ribbons 34 can be slid in the transverse direction relative to each other. Consequently, the stack 32a and the sheath can be changed from non-oblique shapes to oblique shapes in the end face figure of the sheath. The stack 32a assumes a shape twisted in the lengthwise direction, and the sheath is hard enough to hold the stack 32a assuming this shape. The sheath has a thickness with its outside surface demarcating a rise corresponding to the twist of the stack 32a.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a package to be a buffer for a laminate by storing the laminate of optical fiber ribbons in a buffer coating, which has a relatively soft inner part and a relatively hard outer part. SOLUTION: This laminate 32a of optical fiber ribbons 34 is stored in a buffer coating 36a, which has a relatively soft inner part and a relatively hard outer part. The inner part has an inside surface, which is extended around a passage and defines the passage which passage stores the laminate 32a and is extended in the lengthwise direction. This inside surface is brought into close contact with the laminate 32a. The outer part is extended around the inner part, closely defined with the inner part and is brought into close contact with the inner part and has a modulus of elasticity higher than that of the inner part. The inner part has an outside surface, which is extended around the passage and is separated from the passage. The outer part has an inside surface which is extended around outside surface of the inner part, closely defined with respect to the outside surface, brought into close contact with the outside surface and is connected to the outside surface, and thus the buffer coating 36a has a multi layered structure.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical fiber cable incorporating different sized multiple stacks of optical fiber ribbons. SOLUTION: The stacks are composed of a central stack positioned at the nearly center within the passage of a jacket and peripheral stacks positioned radially around the central stack. The difference exists between the dimension of the central stack and the dimension of one or plural peripheral stacks. A buffer container individually incorporating the peripheral stacks is intertwined in the longitudinal direction around the central stack. Inner surfaces extending in the longitudinal direction are included in respective buffer containers, these inner surfaces extend around the passage extending in the longitudinal direction, and the passage is demarcated by these inner surfaces. Individual stacks are incorporated in the passage. The considerable parts in the periphery of respective peripheral stacks are surely bounded by respective inner surfaces which are meshed with these parts.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical fiber group closely connected by an easily removable buffer coating and a related optical fiber cable. SOLUTION: A buffer coating 36a is extended around a passage extended in the longitudinal direction for housing an optical fiber ribbon laminated object 32a and is provided with an inner surface, extended in the longitudinal direction for stipulating the passage. The inner surface is in close contact with the laminated object at a boundary, and the buffer coating 36a is removed easily from the laminated object 32a. Since the buffer coating 36a is constituted of a thin and easy-to-tear material, the buffer coating 36a is removed easily from the laminated object. Also, since the buffer coating 36a stipulates a weakened part extending in the longitudinal direction and the weakened part can be torn apart more easily than the remaining part of the buffer coating 36a, the buffering coating 36a is removed easily from the laminated object.
