    Abstract: This invention relates to a method and apparatus for blocking spam messages originated in a different network. An anti-spam check is made in response to an initial Send Routing Information (SRI) (20) message received in a destination network of a message. The result of this check is sent back to the originating network along with a destination address (61) of a switch in the destination network, and SRI spam code (64) and Mobile Terminated (MT) Routing Address Correlation ID (63). If SRI spam code (64) indicates a spam, then subsequent transmission of the MT message (70) with the same Correlation ID (73) is blocked in the interworking switch (5) or SMSC (7).

    Abstract: IMS call control nodes (101) and methods are disclosed for providing online charging in an IMS network (100). An IMS call control node (101) receives a call message from a CSCF (110) through a first interface (112) for a call session, and determines whether to execute Application Server (AS) logic (104-106) or gateway logic (108) responsive to the call message. If the processing system (102) determines that the call message should be processed with the AS logic, then the processing system executes the AS logic to perform a service and to contact the OCS (120) for online charging for the service. A location server of the network stores black lists of message sources which are known or believed to be generators of spam messages, or sources from which a particular destination does not wish to receive messages. When a location inquiry is made to a location server, such as a home location register (HLR) of a mobile network or a home subscriber server (HSS) of an Internet Protocol network, wherein is stored a table of sources which have been black listed because they are believed to be sources of spam messages. Advantageously, this arrangement avoids use of network resources to make extensive checks to identify spam messages.

    Abstract: A Diameter router (20) is presented for performing load balancing and initial Diameter message routing in an IMS network, where clients in network elements (10) are provisioned with the address of the router and send an initial Diameter request message (41) for a given session to the router.
