    Abstract: 21,832. Mason, J. H. Oct. 31. Adding - apparatus.- In devices of the kind comprising concentric disks mounted in a casing provided with sightopenings, the casing is formed of upper and lower rings 2, 2 connected bv a web 5, on either side of which are mounted rings 1, 8 each bearing numerals 0...99. Numerals corresponding to those on the units and tens ring 1 are also carried by the outer edge of the casing 2. An opening 3 is formed in the casing at the side of which are carried numerals 1 ... 9, and through which are visible teeth 6 formed on the ring 1. Ratchet or like teeth 9 are carried by the hundreds and thousands ring 8 to co-operate with the transfer device. Either ring may be set to show a number at the sight-openings 10 by means of protruding teeth 15 , 16x, which may also be used for zeroizing purposes. Computation is effected by moving the ring 1 by the insertion of a pencil or the like between the teeth 6 opposite the required numeral and moving it until stopped by the end 7 of the opening, or by moving the tooth 15 to the numeral shown on the outer edge of the casing. Transfer mechanism.-A spring pawl 15 carried by the ring 1 is adapted to engage the ring 8 when opposite a gap 16 in the web 5 at the transfer point. An alternative device comprises a ball 11 moving in grooves 13 formed with an indentation opposite the gap in the web so that the teeth 9 are engaged at the transfer point.

A d d i n g-a p p a r a t u s ; differential mechanism.- In machines having rotatable toothed disks of the kind described in Specification 21,832/14, the outer casing is provided with radial grooves E formed between projections F to guide the pencil or stylus to the required tooth. The numbers to be added, which are arranged at the side of the operating opening in the outer casing, may be arranged in two series, odd and even, separate stops H, I being provided for the two series. A peripheral groove G, Fig. 3, is formed in the lower plate B to guide the operating-stylus The transfer mechanism is similar to that described in the above-mentioned Specification, but the transfer member is situated opposite to the operating opening.
