Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily perform a cylinder head cover removal operation by installing an oil control valve at a proper position without being interfered by an oil feeding path for feeding hydraulic pressure to the oil control valve. SOLUTION: A valve system for an engine comprises a valve timing adjustment mechanism 5 for adjusting the valve drive timing of a cam shaft 1 which drives the intake or exhaust valve of an engine. The system is provided with a spool 44 and a spool drive means 45 for driving the spool 44 in its axial direction. An oil control valve 6 for controlling the supply and exhaust of hydraulic pressure from the valve timing adjustment mechanism 5 is installed on a cylinder head cover 11 on the engine end part side, and the spool 44 is disposed in the direction generally orthogonal to the output shaft direction of the engine.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve the cooling efficiency by providing a projection arranged to cover the peripheral edge of an impeller from the terminal end of a guide groove toward the front position of a guide port in the rotation direction of the impeller, and forming the projection to squeeze the interval with a cylinder liner at the end section of a cylinder train toward the upper end side. CONSTITUTION:A projection 13 covering the peripheral edge of an impeller 4 is arranged in the nearly vertical direction from the terminal end of a guide groove 10 toward the front position of a guide port 6 in the rotation direction of the impeller 4 at the portion around the impeller 4 on the end section of a cylinder block 1. The upper end side portion of the projection 13 is extended toward a communicating hole 9 located at the upper position of the impeller 4, and its lower end side portion is extended downward along the guide port 6 respectively. The water stream of the impeller 4 is prevented by the projection 13 from interfering with the cooling water flowing toward the communicating hole 9 at the position near the impeller 4 after circulating around a block side water jacket 3, and the cooling efficiency for the combustion chamber of the impeller 4 side cylinder is improved.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a fixed side member to function as a guide for temporarily receiving a belt when the timing belt is assembled by setting the outer peripheral diameter of a fixed side member and the diameter of a root circle of a timing pulley adjacent to the fixed side member in a valve timing variable mechanism to about the same diameter, and improve the ability to assemble a timing belt. SOLUTION: With the device, a valve timing variable mechanism 15 for changing the turning phases of a timing pulley 5 and a camshaft 14, is provided, and a turning member 18 and a fixed side member 21 of the valve timing variable mechanism 15 are provided on the same axis as the camshaft 14. The fixed side member 21 is fixed to the front end of the timing pulley 5 and the turning member 18 is fixed to the camshaft 14 to bring the timing pully 5 and the camshaft 14 into a fitting state where they can relatively turn. In this case, the outer peripheral diameter D1 of the fixed side member 21 and the diameter D2 of a root circle 5b of the timing pulley 5 adjacent to the fixed side member are set to about the same diameter.
