Abstract: A control system for a steplessly variable transmission comprising a drive pulley and driven pulley formed with V-shaped grooves respectively, an endless belt engaged with the both grooves of the pulleys and tensioned between the pulleys to transmit engine torque therethrough, cylinders provided on the pulleys for being subjected to a hydraulic pressure to vary an effective diameter of the pulleys so that a speed ratio of the transmission is continuously changed, a hydraulic pressure supply device for introducing the hydraulic pressure into the cylinder means, a line pressure control device for controlling a line pressure of a hydraulic circuit which controls operation of the cylinders, a line pressure detecting device for detecting the line pressure, a torque detecting device for detecting the engine torque transmitted to the drive pulley, a torque allowance computing device for computing a maximum allowable belt transmitting torque which is effectively transmitted from the drive pulley to the driven pulley through the belt under the line pressure detected by the line pressure detecting device, and the torque control device for controlling a torque transmitted from the drive pulley to the driven pulley to a value smaller than the maximum torque when the engine torque detected by the torque detecting device is greater than the maximum torque. When a line pressure of a hydraulic control circuit therefor is unduly lowered, the slip between the drive and driven pulleys can be effectively suppressed.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To miniaturize an oil pump and improve the fuel consumption by controlling the input torque transmitted from a torque converter to an oil pressure type automatic transmission less than the prescribed value when the stop of a vehicle is detected. CONSTITUTION:When a brake detecting signal is input from a brake detecting switch 88, a control unit 78 excites the electromagnetic solenoid of a stopper mechanism 89, and a stopper pin is displaced to the projecting position so as to prevent the operating movement of an accel pedal to the full open position, and the input torque transmitted from a torque converter to a continuous transmission is controlled to be the prescribed value. As a result, the necessity of setting the line pressure high to the range corresponding to the unnecessary torque range by the first electro magnetic solenoid valve 51 is eliminated. Consequently, the line pressure can be restrained lower so that the structure of an oil pump for attaining to this line pressure can be miniaturized.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve the reliability of a belt transmission part by reducing the input torque itself or the speed change ratio when the input torque supplied into a continuously variable transmission exceeds an allowable frictional transmission torque of the belt transmission part. CONSTITUTION:A control unit 40 calculates the engine torque corresponding to the engine revolution speed 45 and the throttle opening degree 42 by searching a torque map by an input torque detecting means 51. When a comparing means 52 judges that the input torque supplied into the continuously variable transmission exceeds an allowable frictional transmission torque in a belt transmission part, a transmission torque control means 53 reduces the speed change ratio of the continuously variable transmission, and further, if necessary, reduces the input torque itself which is inputted from the engine into the continuously variable transmission. Therefore, the high output of the engine can be obtained, securing the reliability of the belt transmission part.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To increase durability of a belt by setting initial alignment in such a way that deviation becomes zero when gear change ratio is the maximum and transmission torque is at the maximum load when alignment in the axial direction between drive and follow-up pulleys is set. CONSTITUTION:When alignment in the axial direction between a drive pulley 41 and a follow-up pulley 42 of a continuously variable transmission 4 is set, initial alignment is set in such a way that deviation becomes zero when gear change ratio is the maximum and transmission torque of a belt 43 is at the maximum load. Since deviation in alignment in the axial direction between the drive pulley 41 and the follow-up pulley 42 when high load is applied becomes zero, the torsional stress which is applied on the belt 43 is reduced even if high load is applied. Thus, it is possible to improve durability and reliability of the belt.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To reduce any driving loss of pumps on the whole by providing two pumps consisting of an operating pressure pump for supplying operating pressure to hydraulic actuators and a control pressure pump for supplying control pressure to control valve. CONSTITUTION:There are provided with two pumps, that is, a large capacity operating pressure pump 81 for supplying oil to obtain operating pressure to be fed to the hydraulic cylinders 414, 424 of a primary and a secondary pulleys, and a control pressure pump 150 for supplying oil to obtain control pressure acting upon control valves 82, 85, 88, 89. With this constitution, in the circumstances where only low operating pressure is required to be fed to the hydraulic cylinders 414, 424, the pressure of a large quantity of oil fed from the large capacity operating pressure pump 81 can be controlled to this low operating pressure. Accordingly, even though a driving loss on the small capacity control pressure pump 150 is increased by that portion, the driving loss of the pumps on the whole can be reduced because of reduced driving loss of the large capacity operating pressure pump 81 by a large degree.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To attempt to amplify construction and reduce the number of parts by constituting a first hydraulic actuator with a movable cylinder and a fixed piston, and a second hydraulic actuator with a fixed cylinder mounted to a removable cylinder adjoining case and a removable piston. CONSTITUTION:An actuator 35 is composed of first and second actuators 36, 40, and the actuator 36 is composed of a movable cylinder member 37 fixed on the rear of a movable sheave 33 and a fixed piston 39 whose inner end is fixed to a secondary shaft 30, outer end movably contacts the member 37 and forms an oil pressure chamber 38 in the space between the member 37. On the other hand, the actuator 40 is composed of a ring-shaped fixed cylinder member 41 integrally formed with a case 1 on the side of the rear in the axial direction of the member 37, and a ring-shaped movable piston 43 that movably contacts with the outer end internal circumference part and the inner end external circumference. part of the member 41 and forms an oil pressure chamber 42 in the space between the member 41. Now that the member 41 of the actuator 40 is integrally formed with the case 1, construction is simple and the number of parts becomes few.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To enhance gear change response by controlling the value of line pressure applied to a gear ratio control means and a driven side pulley on the basis of input torque and a target gear ratio at the time of down-shift, and on the basis of input torque and an actual gear ratio at the time of up-shift. CONSTITUTION:In down-shift operation, the effective radius of driving side pulley 10 shrinks and the effective radius of a driven side pulley 11 expands, thereby increasing a gear ratio gradually. In this case, line pressure is set on the basis of applied input torque and a target gear ratio. As this target gear ratio is maximum even for a transient gear ratio in the down-shift operation,the line pressure increases to an upper maximum limit. As a result, the expansion operation of the effective radius of the driven side pulley 11 is quickly done in a short time, together with the shrinkage operation of the effective radius of the driving side pulley 10, thereby improving gear change response in the down-shift operation. Also, in up-shift operation, the line pressure is set on the basis of the applied input torque and a gear ratio, and the shrinkage operation of the effective radius of the driven side pulley 11 gradually takes place, together with the expansion operation of the effective radius of the driving side pulley 10.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To prevent a slip of a belt by lowering the torque, which is transferred from a driving pulley to a driven pulley, when the allowable belt-transferred torque of a continuously variable transmission is lowered so as to become smaller than the torque transferred from an engine, because of a line pressure drop. CONSTITUTION:If the line pressure, which controls the working oil pressure, which is supplied from an oil pressure supplying means to respective cylinder chambers of a driving pulley and a driven pulley, lowers abnormally, the allowable transferred torque of a non-stage transmission also lowers. If the line pressure becomes smaller than the torque transferred from an engine to the driving pulley, this fact is detected by a torque comparing means, and, based on this detection results, a torque controlling means lowers the torque, which is transferred from the driving pulley to the driven pulley via a belt at that time, to the value lower than the allowable belt-transferred torque. With this contrivance, even if the line pressure drops abnormally, the lowering of the running performance of a vehicle can be restricted as far as possible, and a slip of the belt can be avoided.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve evaporative fuel adsorbing performance of a canister by providing means for cooling the canister filled with activated carbon for adsorbing evaporative fuel when the ambient temperature of the canister is high. CONSTITUTION:A canister 7 incorporating activated carbon for adsorbing evaporative fuel generated in a fuel tank 5 is connected to the upper space in the fuel tank 5 to be communicated with each other through an evaporative fuel supply passage 8. The canister 7 is connected to an intake passage 2 disposed downstream from a throttle valve 4 to be communicated with each other through an evaporative fuel supply passage 9. The canister 7 has an evaporative fuel capture chamber 18 formed by a case 16 and an inner wall 17, which is filled with activated carbon 6. A chamber 22 for passing a refrigerant is formed between the case 16 and the inner wall 17, and a refrigerant supply passage 40 in a cooling cycle is connected to the chamber 22 to be communicated with each other. In this arrangement, during cooling operation, the activated carbon 6 of the canister 7 can be cooled by the refrigerant.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To prevent the deterioration of a combusting condition, by returning to a control property of an engine corresponding to a high octane number from a control property corresponding to a low octane number when the quantity of fuel is increased more than a prescribed quantity in the state that a vehicle is at rest where the control property of the engine is to be changed according to the octane number of fuel. CONSTITUTION:There are provided a setting means A for setting a first control property corresponding to fuel of a high octane number and a setting means B for setting a second control property corresponding to fuel of a low octane number. A control property changing means D changes an engine control by the first control property to that by the second control property based on the combusting condition in the engine sensed by a combusting condition sensing means C. In this case, there are further provided a stop sensing means E for sensing the stop of a vehicle and a fuel sensing means F for sensing the quantity of the fuel in a fuel tank. When the quantity of the fuel is increased more than a prescribed quantity in the state that the vehicle is at rest, a control property returning means G returns the engine control by the second control property to that by the first control property.
