    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent oil from entering a timing belt chamber while promoting the compactness of a variable valve timing device in the direction of a cam shaft and the compactness of the total height of the device, in the variable valve timing device in which a cam pulley on the valve timing variable mechanism side is formed of a timing pulley. SOLUTION: A variable valve timing device is provided with a valve timing variable mechanism 15 and an oil control valve 32 for controlling the pressure of the operating oil of the valve timing variable mechanism 15. The oil pressure path between the valve timing variable mechanism 15 and the oil control valve 32 is formed through a timing pulley 5 and a camshaft bearing part 13 adjacent to the pulley 5, and a spool 41 for controlling the oil pressure of the oil pressure path by means of its own axial movement, is housed in the oil control valve 32. Further, plural waste oil openings 48 are separately formed in a valve case 31 of the oil control valve 32 in the axial direction of the spool 41, and the oil control valve 32 is installed on the upper face of a covering member 12 for covering a timing belt 7 so that the axial direction of the spool 41 housed in the oil control valve intersects a camshaft 14 at right angles.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To mix fuel in good condition by arranging respective opening/closing valves in a plurality of intake passages, and arranging respective fuel injection valves on a part of the intake passages and upsteam sides of all intake passages, and also operating respective fuel injection valves selectively according to operating condition of partial opening/closing valves. CONSTITUTION:In an engine 1 provided with multiple cylinders 2, first opening/closing valves 37 are provided so as to close first air intake passages 20 while leaving prescribed effective opening areas in low load operating condition. Also second opening/ closing valves 39 are provided so as to fully close second intake passages 21 in low load operating condition. Furtheremore, each independent fuel injection valve 38 is arranged in each of the first air intake passages 20, and also common fuel injection valves 48 are arranged on upstream sides of first and second intake passages 20, 21. Opening/closing operating condition of each second opening/closing valve 39 is detected by a condition sensor 47. Both fuel injection valves 38, 48 are controlled by a control unit 60 in a such way that the independent fuel injection valve 38 is operated in low load operating condition when the second opening/closing valve 39 is in fully closed condition, and the common fuel injection valve 48 is operated in low load operating condition when the second opening/closing valve 39 is in opened condition.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To prevent a torque shock stably from occurring at the time of changing, not influenced by the difference in air density and the like between flat land and high land, when opening/closing timing of an engine suction valve is changed over by a valve timing variable means. CONSTITUTION:When suction flow velocity through a throttle valve 15 becomes constant regardless of changeover of opening/closing timing of a suction valve 24, valve timing is changed over. That is, valve timing is changed over according to suction filling quantity to an engine 1 or to throttle opening extent. The lower the air density, the smaller becomes the suction filling quantity or the throttle opening extent where opening/closing timing of the suction valve 24 is changed over.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To favorably gasify and atomize fuel to improve the combustibility of a mixture even when an engine is cold started by controlling the quantity of intake air by a throttle valve arranged in a collecting intake air passage to generate a large negative pressure when the engine is cold-started. CONSTITUTION:To six cylinders 2a-2f, branched air intake passages 3a-3f independently passing through each cylinder are respectively connected. Throttle valves 5a-5f for adjusting the intake air quantities, and fuel injection valves 6a-6f for injecting and supplying fuel, are arranged to the respective branched air intake passages 3a-3f. When an engine is cold-started, the quantity of intake air is adjusted by a throttle valve 9 in a collecting air passage 8a, and the volume of intake air passages in the downstream of the throttle valve 9 becomes large to increase intake negative pressure. Fuel supplied from the fuel injection valves 6a-6f in the respective air intake passages is favorably gasified and atomized. Thus, even when an engine is cold-started, the combustibility of a mixture can be surely maintained in a good condition.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To eliminate any increase in excessive fuel by making control for decreasing fuel quantity of increase compensation as the humidity of intake air is high, when basic injection quantity of the fuel is increasingly compensated under a high load operation state of an engine. CONSTITUTION:An injector 7 is controlled by a controller 6 based on respective detected signals from various sensors 1-4 which detectes an operation condition of an engine so as to inject and supply a proper quantity of fuel to a combustion chamber. Then, the controller 6, seeks for basic injection quantity of fuel which is suitable for the operation condition of the engine where an air-fuel ratio of mixed air is set at a target value, and the fuel injection quantity is increased or decreased so that a detected value of the air-fuel ratio can approach the target value, and also proper compensation quantity is added to the basic injection quantity during a specified high load operation condition. With respect to the above constitution, in the controller 6, the fuel quantity of the above compensation is controlled to be smaller as the humidity of the intake air detected by a humidity sensor 5 is higher.

CONSTITUTION:At the time of lean combustion at which air-fuel ratio is larger than a theoretical air-fuel ratio, influence of residual combusted gas is increased at a high speed time at which intake and exhaust gas overlapping time is large, and torque is decreased rather than the lower speed time at which the overlapping is small. At a means 50 for changing engine speed to be changed over the engine speed to be changed is varied in response that an air-fuel ratio is larger than a theoretical air-fuel ratio so as to prevent generation of torque shock at the time of switching a valve timing.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To rapidly increase the temperature of a catalyst to a reaction temperature so as to ensure excellent warming-up ability by providing a secondary air flow rate varying means to vary a flow rate of secondary air of an engine and a control means to control the secondary air flow rate varying means. CONSTITUTION:A secondary air feed passage 20 to feed secondary air to an exhaust gas passage 17 located upper stream from a catalyst 18 and a heating means 22 disposed in the middle of the secondary air feed passage 20 are provided. Secondary air is heated through operation of the heating means 22 during cold-down. A secondary air flow rate varying means 21 to vary a flow rate of secondary air is provided. During the initial state of operation of the heating means 22, a secondary air flow rate is reduced to a value lower than an objective flow rate. Thereafter, a control means 30 to control a secondary air flow rate varying means 21 so that a secondary air flow rate is increased to a target flow rate. This constitution causes prevention of the feed of quantities of low temperature secondary air to a catalyst, execution of high-efficient heating of secondary air itself, and improvement of warming-up ability by providing a top priority for the increase of temperature by means of secondary air of the catalyst.

Further, when the detected intake air temperature is over a prescribed value in case of nonsupercharge, the ECU supplies the air discharged from the supercharger 107 into the I/C 107 and supplies the air discharged from the I/C 107 to the surge tanks 109a and 109b and to the directly upstream side of the supercharger 107.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To prevent the deterioration in a purification rate of exhaust gas by arranging a control means to actuate a heating means when an engine temperature detected by an engine temperature sensor is not more than a prescribed value and when supply of fuel is stopped. CONSTITUTION:Pre-catalysts 4 are arranged in the middle of exhaust passages 2. On the other hand, main catalyst 5 is arranged in the middle of an aggregated exhaust passage 3. A cut valve 8 to increase and decrease a secondary air supply quantity, a check valve 9 and a secondary air heating means 11 are arranged in order from the upstream side of a secondary air supply passage 6 arranged extendedly from an air pump 7. A temperature sensor 15 is arranged to detect an engine temperature (water temperature). A control means 21 is arranged to actuate a heating means 11 when the engine temperature detected by an engine temperature sensor 15 is mot more than a prescribed value and when supply of fuel is stopped. In this way, the sudden deterioration in a purification rate of exhaust gas can be prevented.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain good combustibility irrespective of the degree of carburetion and atomization of the fuel according to the assist air volume by controlling the ignition timing so that the ignition timing may obtain more spark advance when the assist air volume is small than when it is large. CONSTITUTION:An assist air volume control means 61 reduces the assist air in the idling zone which is a low load low speed zone, and controls a duty solenoid valve 51 in other running zone so that the assist air volume may be adjusted according to the engine load and the engine speed. An ignition timing control means 62 controls the ignition timing according to the operating condition of an engine 1 and the assist air volume, i.e., in the idling condition, it controls the ignition timing to the timing according to the operating condition of the engine 1 and in the running condition, it controls the ignition timing to the timing according to the operating condition of the engine 1 and the assist air volume so that the ignition timing may obtain more spark advance when the assist air volume is small than when it is large.
