    Abstract: A social networking activity reporting system ("SNARS") and techniques notify a user of a client-side electronic device about updates ("activity items," or "AIs") from the user's social network. A relevance formula, including at least one time-dependent portion and at least one time-independent portion, calculates a relevance score for an AI. For each AI, the time-dependent portion includes at least one factor based on a dynamic relationship between the user and the AI (e.g., the relationship between the user or others in the user's social network and the publisher; or the amount of interaction the user or others in the user's social network have had with the item or subject). The AIs are presented in ascending or descending order based on the relevance scores. The relevance formula may be updated and re-applied to the same or a different set of activity items.
