    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a system for specifying a position of a movable member in an electronic input device within a range of resolutions defined in advance. SOLUTION: Two offset signals indicate the position of the movable member. The time required for each signal to exceed a threshold level is measured and made into inverse to make clear a relationship of offset sine waves. The offset sine waves are plotted to each other to make clear an approximate circle of an inverse time sample with respect to a cycle. A central reference value with respect to each signal is specified by using the minimum time and the maximum time made into corresponding inverses. As a correlation of the times made into inverses, a quadrant of the said circle is specified. A sector most corresponding to the position of the movable member is specified out of a plurality of predefined sectors defining resolutions within the quadrant.     Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an out-of-band communication system and its associated processing in the distribution of a key that is used for encryption. SOLUTION: In the out-of-band communication system and associated processing, an out-of-band communication system 103 includes an encryption data path 106 configured to transmit encryption data. The out-of-band communication system 103 includes an optical out-of-band channel 104 physically separated from the encryption data path 106. The optical out-of-band channel 104 is drawn between an optical transmitter 302 and an optical receiver 304, and is configured to transmit key information from the optical transmitter 302 to the optical receiver 304. Thus, the key or the key information is distributed from one side to the other side in a secure mode, and encrypted data can be then communicated on the data path 106 which is encrypted by using this key or key information.     Abstract: Use of a biometric identification device in a client computer system to subsequently access an authentication system includes receiving biometric sample data which is digitally signed and combining the data with a user ID and PIN. This package of data is then securely transmitted to a biometric matching server to validate the user and the biometric sample. Once validated, the biometric matching server return the data package plus a temporary certificate and a public/private key pair to the client computer. The client computer may then use this information to access an authentication system to subsequently gain access to a secure resource.
