Abstract: A service module (303) of a gateway for communicating 6LoWPAN network (305) to 1Pv6 network (306) is described. The module describes a network join packet to establish initial connection between 6LoWPAN network (305) and 1Pv6 network (306). Predetermined 1Pv6 prefix is added to EUl-64 address to generate a mapping table of 1Pv6 prefix to EUl-64 address. The gateway supports pull-based and push-based communication system. In pull-based communication system, an 1Pv6 client request data from a particular node. The node replies the request with sensor data to 1Pv6 client. Push-based communication is used when 6LoWPAN nodes proactively sends data to a dedicated 1Pv6 remote station.

Abstract: SENSOR NODES (20) ARE USUALLY BOUND TO A MAIN GATEWAY (24) IN A WIRELESS SENSOR NETWORK (22). THE PRESENT INVENTION PROPOSES A SOLUTION WHICH COMPRISES CREATING NOVEL SOCKET ADDRESS FOR OTHER COMMUNICATOR GATEWAY (26) TO CONNECT WITH SENSORS IN A WIRELESS SENSOR NETWORK. SOCKET ADDRESSES FOR OTHER COMMUNICATOR GATEWAY ARE PROVIDED (60). THE BINDING STATUS OF NEW COMMUNICATOR GATEWAY IS BOUND (68) TO ESTABLISH CONNECTION. AFTER RECEIVING GATEWAY ADVERTISEMENT PACKET FROM A SINK SUCH AS COMMUNICATOR GATEWAY, THE SENSOR NODE WILL SAVE THE ADDRESS OF THE COMMUNICATOR GATEWAY AND COPY THE SOCKET ADDRESS TO THE MAIN SOCKET ADDRESS (74). THEN, SENSOR DATA CAN BE SENT TO THE DESIRED COMMUNICATOR GATEWAY (76). AFTER THE DATA IS SENT, THE SENSOR WILL COPY BACK THE SOCKET ADDRESS OF THE MAIN GATEWAY IN THE MAIN SOCKET ADDRESS (78).
