Abstract: A paper feeding device for feeding a document by a feed roller (51) from a paper cassette (12) is presented. The device is not provided with a click to avoid a double feeding of documents. A friction pad (58) is pressed on the feed roller (51) to avoid a double feeding of docu­ments. It comprises a driving force transmitting mechanism for transmitting a rotary force in the opposite direction to the paper-feeding direction to a shaft on which the feed roller is installed in an initial stage of an opera­tion of removing the paper cassette (12).
