Abstract: Olefins are (copolymerised opt. with dienes using a catalyst system comprising (A) a solid Ti cpd. contg. Mg, Ti, a halogen and an ester from polycarboxylic acid esters and polyhydroxy cpd. esters, (B) an organometallic cpd. of a Gp. (I) to (III) metals and (C) an organosilicon cpd. contg. an Si-O-C or an Si-N-C bond. Component(A) is prepd. by contacting a liq. hydrocarbon soln. (i) of a Mg cpd. with (ii) a Ti cpd. in the liq. state to form a solid prod. or by prep.g. first a liq. hydrocarbon soln. of the Mg cpd. (i) and the Ti cpd. (ii), then forming a solid prod, from that soln., the reaction to form the solid prod. being effected in presence of (D) an electron donor, contacting the latter with (E) an ester comprising polycarboxylic acid esters and polyhydroxy esters.
