Abstract: Disclosed is a method for the pyrolysis of a polymer comprising the steps of: introducing a reaction mixture resulting from pyrolytic reaction of a polymer in a pyrolysis reactor into an evaporator connected to the pyrolysis reactor at a high temperature, causing the reaction mixture to evaporate in the evaporator while blowing an inert gas into the evaporator, withdrawing volatile components separated from the reaction mixture from the evaporator, and withdrawing the reaction mixture from the evaporator. When the polymer is an olefin polymer, by this method, a pyrolytic wax of quality having satisfactory hue and a minimal content of contaminants is continuously produced in a stable manner for a long period.

Abstract: A process for the thermal degradation of polymer, which comprises feeding the polymer to an extruder for melting, transferring the molten polymer at a constant rate to a tubular thermal degradation reactor through a constant rate transferring means connected to the extruder, and thermally degrading the polymer in the reactor. This process allows a low-molecular polymer with a high quality to be produced continuously with a simple apparatus in a simple step. Particularly it is possible to obtain a high-quality thermal degradation wax with a good hue and a reduced content of foreign matter continuously in a stabilized manner for a long period of time by thermally degrading an olefinic polymer in a simple apparatus and efficiently removing the formed volatile component from the reaction mixture.

Abstract: The method includes the steps of feeding a polymer to an extruder where the polymer is melted, metering the molten polymer from the extruder to a tubular pyrolysis reactor through metering means connected to the extruder, and pyrolytically decomposing the polymer in the tubular pyrolysis reactor. A polymer can be pyrolytically decomposed to continuously produce a low molecular weight polymer of quality in a simplified apparatus through simple steps. More particularly, an olefin polymer can be pyrolytically decomposed and volatile components resulting from the pyrolytic reaction be effectively removed from the reaction mixture using a simplified apparatus whereby a pyrolytic wax of quality having satisfactory hue and a minimal content of contaminants is continuously produced in a stable manner for a long period.

Abstract: Metal (aluminium) foil is laminated to each face of a freshly extruded polyolefin sheet by use of pressure and an interfacial film which is laterally stretched immediately before application to the underside of the metal foil. The core layer is pref. a polyethylene of density 0.91-0.97 g/cm3, melt index 0.05-100. The adhesive film is made of a blend of 70-99 pts. wt. of a polyolefin graft copolymer contg. 0.0001-3% wt. of maleic anhydride and 1-30 pts. wt. of a jhydrocarbon elastomer, pref. polyisobutylene or an ethylene-propylene rubber. Typically the film is 10-100 mu m thick. The metal foil is of Al 0.01-0.5mm thick. Stretching of the adhesive film results in good uniform interfacial contact and high delamination resistance.
