Abstract: PURPOSE:To milden the initial reaction, and to obtain the title compound with suppressed by-products, by feeding aminoanthraquinone with an alkaline condensation agent in portions to a reaction system comprising dimethyl sulfoxide and an oxidizing agent. CONSTITUTION:One or more materials of 1-aminoanthraquinone (A) and an alkaline condensation agent (C) are fed to a reaction system comprising dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) and an oxidizing agent (B) in portions, and/or the amount of water present in the system is adjusted to give the objective compound. For example, DMSO, A, and 0-50% alkaline condensing agent, e.g. KOH of the total amt. of (C), are fed to a reactor, and the remaining C is slowly added to drive the reaction in the presence of (B), e.g. air, at 80-140 deg.C. Water is distilled off, if necessary, to complete the reaction.
