    Abstract: This specification discloses a composition and method for treating a well that is used for producing sour gas having dissolved sulfur, and water containing scale-forming ions from a subterranean formation to remove and prevent the deposition of sulfur and scale in the well. The composition is comprised of a mixture of a chemical that is capable of forming a polysulfide with hydrogen sulfide and sulfur and a complexing agent which is capable of complexing the scale-forming ions in the water. The composition is circulated into and from the well and sulfur and scale are removed therefrom.
