Raising adhesion of fibres, pref. metal cord, polyester, nylon, rayon or wood cellulose, including fibres of opt. brass-plated steel or an Al-steel alloy, to rubber in tyre-cord mfr. is achieved by treating the fibres with a mainly satd. sol., esp. water-sol. polymer, resulting from the introduction of a 3-10 C olefinically unsatd. gp. into resorcinol nucleus, in an amt. of 0.1-2 (0.1-0.7) moles unsatd. gp./mole resorcinal. Pref. unsatd. gp. is derived from a (di)haloolefine, an (a)cyclic diolefine or an olefinic alcohol or its precursor. In a pref. process, the fibre is treated with the 1-6 C aldehyde, esp. HCHO, condensate of a mixt. of resorcinol and the water-sol. mainly satd. polymers. Pref. polymers contain diresorcinol units sepd. by 2-8 C alkylene and have 450-750 av. mol. wt. and 500-1200 mol. wt. Pref. condensate has 700-1800 mol. wt. and 900-10000 mol. wt.
