Abstract:
The voice signaling gateway (10) converts signaling and bearer traffic information between iDEN network (20) and various other networks (30-60). Th e voice signaling gateway includes a signaling portion (14) and a bearer traff ic portion (12). The voice signaling gateway interfaces with any networks which support session initiation protocol (SIP). Further, the voice signaling gateway is capable of interworking with both 3G and 2G type networks.
Abstract:
A mobile device (80) is coupled to a dispatch server (50) via a mobile netwo rk (60, 70) and an internet protocol network (40). The mobile device triggers a push-to-talk request which is processed by the dispatch server. The dispatch server then transmits this push-to-talk request to a family radio service (FRS) gateway (30). FRS gateway (30) converts this digital request to an analog request and broadcasts the request via a base station (20) to a famil y service radio (10). The FRS radio can broadcast back to the FRS gateway, whi ch will vocode the analog request, and transmit it back to the mobile device vi a the dispatch server. This invention allows mobile devices (cellular) equippe d with PTT applications to network with FRS radios.
Abstract:
A local exchange with limited access to outside communication systems is coupled to a global satellite communication system by a mobile exchange unit. The mobile exchange unit (MXU) provides access to the local exchange by relating one channel in the global communication system to many possible destinations in the local exchange. Multiple circuits of the local exchange are associated with a single mobile number. A gateway associated with the MXU associates an available radio channel with the calling subscriber. Multi-stage dialing is eliminated and a subscriber can directly dial a number of a party in the local exchange.
Abstract:
A method for compressing an address of record (111-117) includes a number of members in a group call (100). A compressed list (120) is generated by listing a common domain name (130), a member ID, a unique index number (121) that represents the member and optionally a presence indicator (131). The compressed list (120) is transmitted (182-186) to each of the members of the group call. When a particular member requests to speak (188) the network transmits (190-194) only the unique index number and optionally the presence information of the requesting member.

Abstract:
A method and apparatus for data collision detection and resolution in a multi-processor communication system. The system includes a plurality of processors (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8) coupled via a common bus (9). When it is required that one processor (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 or 8) communicate with another processor (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 or 8), the first processor (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 or 8) determines whether a data collision flag is set. The processor (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 or 8) then checks a number of indicators to determine whether the identity of the transmitting processor (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 or 8) is what it is expected to be. If a data collision is found, the processor (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 or 8) waits a selective time before transmitting a message (30). The processor (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 or 8) then repeats the data collision checking and transmitting the message (30) to the other processor (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 or 8) when no data collision is found. The time to wait is dependent upon the identity of the processor (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 or 8) and is table driven.
Abstract:
A method for providing push-to-talk (PTT) service between PTT enabled devices (102) and non-PTT enabled devices (116) is disclosed. First, the non-PTT enabled device is registered at a PTT interworking agent (110). Then, signaling data is received at an interface (110) in a first format. The signaling data includes an identifier corresponding to one or more destination phones. Next, the signaling data in the first format is converted to a second signaling protocol at the PTT interworking agent. The push-to-talk signaling information is sent to a push-to-talk server (106) and a destination address is located for each of the one or more phones associated with the signaling data. The signaling data is then routed to the one or more phones.
