    Abstract: A method of communicating information in a communication system wherein a fixed host (162) is operably coupled to a communication network (350) via a gateway general packet radio server (GPRS) service node (GGSN) (174). The method includes the steps of transmitting (450) a message to the GGSN (174), by the fixed host (162), which is preferably a console. The message is sent using a GPRS transport protocol tunnel and includes an access point name (APN). The message requests (455) an Internet Protocol address relating to the APN, from a database (410). The method includes transmitting (460, 465) the Internet Protocol address from said database to the fixed host (162), and the fixed host (162) initiates a communication session (425) with the communication network (350) using the Internet Protocol address. A communication system and fixed host for use in the method are also provided. In this manner, a fixed host such as a console is able to obtain IP address information without requiring maintaining two (or multiple) IP addresses belonging to two (or multiple) different IP spaces that the fixed host communicates with.
