Abstract: A mobile wireless device (302) can include a first processor (614) for establishing a first communication link using a first wireless communication protocol, a second processor (615) for establishing a second communication link using a second wireless communication protocol different from the first wireless communication protocol, and an interprocessor communication link (620) between the first processor and the second processor enabling communication between the first communication link and the second communication link. The mobile wireless device can serve as a dispatcher coupling a first mobile radio 112 using the first wireless communication protocol with a second mobile radio 116 using the second wireless communication protocol. The first wireless communication protocol can be a cellular communication protocol and the second wireless communication protocol can be a dispatch radio communication protocol. The first wireless communication protocol and the second wireless communication protocol can also utilize a wireline communication link (104).

Abstract: A user interface (720) that presents a plurality of screens and a communication device (700) that includes such a user interface. The plurality of screens can include a first screen (102) that indicates a first communication link is established between the communication device and a first contact, and a second screen (114) that indicates at least a second contact with which the communication device is to establish a second communication link. A third screen (140) also can be provided. The third screen can indicate that the first communication link is established and the second communication link is established, and present at least one selectable item (144) correlating to the first communication link and at least one selectable item (146) correlating to the second communication link.

Abstract: A method (100) and system (10) for controlling ad-hoc membership in wireless networks to improve battery life includes determining (102) the capabilities of each of the members of a network and upon launching an application at a member, determining (104) a profile of members of the network required to support the application. A master device (12) can optionally disassociate (106) from the slave devices surveyed until an application is launched having a profile requiring a particular slave device. The method can further include associating (108) the members of the network in the profile and temporarily disassociating (110) a remaining group of members of the network. At another step (112), the method can also assign a higher priority to the members meeting the profile and assign a lower priority to the members that are temporarily disassociated and thereby reduce a maintenance cycle by probing the lower priority members less frequently.

Abstract: A method (200) for synchronizing wakeup of a second communication device (115) with wakeup of a first communication device (110). The method can include, on the first communication device, receiving a first message (135) from a communications network. The first message can indicate a first sleep/wake interval to be implemented on the first communication device. The method also can include communicating a second message (150) from the first communication device to the second communication device. The second message can indicate a second sleep/wake interval to be implemented on the second communication device. The second sleep/wake interval can be synchronized with the first sleep/wake interval. In one arrangement, the second sleep/wake interval can indicate to the second communication device to wakeup from sleep mode immediately after the first communication device has woken up from sleep mode.
