    Abstract: A control transceiver for a cellular communication system (fig.1) comprises a a kinetic unit 200 for determining the kinetic characteristics (eg location, direction of movement, speed etc) of a mobile unit (24, fig.1) and a controller 210, connected to the kinetic unit, for selecting a target cell for the mobile unit to handoff to, according to the kinetic characteristics. The best target cell is selected by ranking candidate cells according to the kinetic characteristics and, optionally, the received signal quality for each of the cells. The control transceiver may be provided in each mobile unit (24, fig.1) or may be at a fixed location such a base station (18,20,22, fig.1) or a gateway (26, fig.1)

    Abstract: A wireless communication system (200) comprises at least one wireless serving communication unit (222) serving a plurality of remote units (212-216) with a communication resource (218-220), the at least one wireless serving communication unit (222) transmits a broadcast message on an outbound communication resource indicating a non- availability of one or more inbound communication resource(s), a communication unit, a broadcast message, a wireless communication unit and method of communication are also provided. Thus, by using a broadcast message of an uplink channel's 20 non-availability, the impact of a third party transmitting a jamming /interfering signal is reduced. The system may be used with FDD, TETRA protocols.
