    Abstract: An age monitoring device 110 (105 in figure 1) for monitoring an extent of ageing of a product (100 in figure 1) includes: (i) an instrument 117 for measuring a value of a parameter which is a property of the product; (ii) a timer 113 for recording a time of use and/or non-use of the product; and (iii) a computing processor 111 operable to receive a signal from the instrument to indicate the measured value of the measured parameter and to receive time information from the timer and to calculate a cumulative extent of notional ageing of the product using a variable rate of notional ageing which has a predetermined dependence on the value of the measured parameter. Also is described a method of operation (200 in figure 3) of the age monitoring device. As specific parameters are mentioned temperature and shock.

    Abstract: Disclosed is a method for using mobile communication systems for the control of the movement of mobile objects. The system comprises a control station which receives from mobile stations location information relating to a current location of the stations, the mobile stations being carried by the mobile objects. The control station detects from the location information received that one of the mobile stations is approaching the current location of another of the mobile stations and issues an alert signal to either or both of the mobile stations to indicate an alert condition related to the detected approach. The processor of the central control may calculate a probability that a collision will occur and issues a warning then the probability reaches a preset threshold and a second more urgent warning when a second higher threshold is past. The warning may be issued based on the distance between the mobile stations. The mobile station may send a time index and speed data to the control station. The mobile objects may be land vehicles eg trains, waterborne eg ships or airborne.
