Abstract:
A method of providing information storage by means of Automatic Speech Recognition through a communication device of a vehicle comprises establishing a voice communication between an external source and a user of the vehicle, receiving information from the external source, processing the received information using an Automatic Speech Recognition unit in the vehicle and storing the recognized speech in textual form for future retrieval or use.
Abstract:
A system and method of calculating an estimated time of arrival for a traveler is provided, along with a notification of this estimated time that is sent to a third party. The traveler is equipped with a navigation unit having a global positioning sensor and a wireless communications device. The navigation unit communicates with a service center equipped with a server capable of generating a preferred navigational route for the traveler. The service center also includes a traffic database for maintaining current traffic information. Once the traveler has selected a predetermined time and frequency of notifications based upon a selected criterion, the navigation unit transmits the traveler's position and velocity to the service center. The service center then calculates the estimated time of arrival based upon the traveler's position, velocity, distance to be traveled and traffic and weather conditions. Once this time is calculated, the service center sends a notification to the third party.
Abstract:
Media devices are connected to a network. Restrictive rights restrict how the media device can process restricted media content on the network. Information indicative of the restrictive rights associated with the network is stored on the network. A request is received to deliver restricted media content to a requested device, which lacks the right to process it. The stored information is used to determine which media device has the restrictive right to process the requested content, and an instruction is sent to that device. The processed content is then delivered from the determined device to the requesting device. A centralized embodiment of the network has a server connected to the media devices. Another embodiment of the network enables the media devices to obtain restricted media content suitable for the restrictive rights of the network from content providers.

Abstract:
An apparatus and method for rapidly providing activity on a vehicle network bus (12,Fig.1) includes a node (TCU 14, Fig.1) having a bus connection to the vehicle network bus. The node (TCU 14, Fig.1) includes a Rapid Response Stack (24, Fig.1) loaded with the predetermined message to respond to any network bus request before the application is up and running. A true stack is loaded with real messages from the application once it is booted up and running on the node, whereupon the application subsequently responds to network bus requests using the true stack instead of the Rapid Response Stack.
Abstract:
A self-orienting audio system includes a master controller and a plurality of loudspeaker modules. Each module includes an audio input and a controller coupled to the audio input and loudspeaker. The master controller communicates with the plurality of loudspeaker modules. The master controller can determine a distance to each of the loudspeaker modules and assign an audio channel to each of the loudspeaker modules depending upon that distance. The master controller can be incorporated into one of the modules. Distance to each module can be determined using signal delay or signal magnitude.
