Abstract: A wireless communication device comprises a circuit board 24 having a fixed switch contact pad (84, Fig. 8), and an antenna 58 moveable in a bushing 40 to and from extended and retracted positions. The antenna includes a first coupling location with a first section 78 and a thicker second section 72, and an electrical feed contact 36 in a fixed position relative to the bushing 40, the electrical feed contact 36 including at least one flexible contact member 74. The antenna is moveable past the flexible contact member 74 between the extended and retracted positions. In the extended position the second section 72 is held between the flexible contact member 74 and the bushing 40 by the force exerted by the flexible contact member 74.

Abstract: A wireless communication device, e.g. a radiotelephone, comprises a circuit board 24 having a fixed switch contact pad (84,Fig 8), an antenna 58 having an extended position and a retracted position relative to the circuit board and a movable switch contact 86 which is electrically coupled with the pad in one but not the other position of the antenna. The switch (84),86 may form the switch (32,Fig 2) in a circuit which provides a matching state between a radio circuit (28) and the antenna in both its retracted and extended positions. The antenna includes a contact having a first section 78 and a thicker second section 72 and is movable in a bushing 40 relative to a feed terminal 36 having a switch contact 74 which engages and holds the antenna contact in the extended position of the antenna. In the retracted position, the antenna engages and is held by a ground terminal (38).
