Abstract: A wireless communication system includes a system Infrastructure (110), a plurality of mobile stations (112,114) and a control terminal (170) operable to send to the mobile stations via the system infrastructure instruction signals by wireless communication relating to information the mobile stations are to store regarding wireless communications with other mobile stations in the system, wherein the information includes group membership information or data relating to communication groups of which the mobile stations are to be members and the instruction signals include an instruction relating to an order in which the group membership information or data in one or more lists of such information is to be stored by the mobile stations.

Abstract: A wireless communication system 100 is provided (preferably a TETRA or other trunked system), including a system infrastructure 110, a plurality of mobile stations 112, 114, 116 and a control terminal 170 operable to send instruction signals to the mobile stations, via the system infrastructure 110 by wireless communication 118, 119, 120, the instruction signals relating to data or information the mobile stations are permitted to store regarding wireless communications with other mobile stations in the system (e.g. talk group details such as mobile station identities, telephone numbers, status messages or short data messages), wherein the instruction signals include an instruction relating to an order in which information is to be stored by the mobile stations in one or more lists of such information. For example, in a TETRA system, the control terminal 170 or dispatcher, which may be a fixed or mobile terminal, may send a Dynamic Group Number Assignment (DGNA) command signal to the mobiles which includes talk group details. The invention provides an extension to this DGNA string which indicates how the mobile should prioritise or group the details in their stored lists, i.e. where the details should be stored in a listing or grouping of such details in the mobile. In non-TETRA systems, the instructions can be sent by communication methods such as short data service or packet data messaging. Thus the data may be stored in prioritised sets, ranges, groups or sub-divisions of these and the instruction will indicate in which set, range, group or subdivision the data should be stored. Furthermore, upon receiving an instruction, a mobile may replace a dummy data entry with a real data entry.
