    Abstract: The wireless telephone of the present invention is comprised of a base unit, coupled to a land-line telephone system, and a remote unit that communicates with the base unit over radio frequencies.     Abstract: An apparatus and method provides identification of a failed subscriber unit (102) in a wireless communication system (100). In a first embodiment, the subscriber unit (102) performs a self test to detect a failure (302) of at least a portion of the subscriber unit (102). If a failure is detected, a message, stored (203) in the subscriber unit (102) is produced. In a second embodiment, the wireless communication system (100) includes a subscriber unit (102) including a receiver (102) communicating with a transmitter (101). The subscriber unit (102) has a unique code selectable by the transmitter (101). The subscriber unit (102) performs a self test to detect a failure (402) of at least a portion of the subscriber unit (102). If a failure is detected, a generic code is substituted (404) for the unique code. The transmitter (101) pages (406) the subscriber unit (102) with its generic code and transmits (407) an indication of the detected failure to the paged subscriber unit (102).

    Abstract: A ceramic block filter (100) includes coupling pins (101 and 102) disposed in holes (124 and 125) in corresponding electrodes (121 and 122) for interconnecting the filter to radio frequency devices, such as a radio transceiver. During manufacture of the filter (100), the coupling pins (101 and 102) are bonded to conductive material (131) of the holes (124 and 125) and corresponding electrodes (121 and 122) when the rest of the conductive material (160) is fired. To facilitate the electrical bond during the manufacturing process, the coupling pins (101 and 102) may be silver or silver plated and co-fired at the same time. Since the coupling pins (101 and 102) are fired at the same time as the rest of the conductive material, a reliable and inexpensive bond is achieved between the coupling pins (101 and 102) and the conductive material of the holes (124 and 125) and corresponding electrodes (121 and 122).

    Abstract: Prior to placing a call to a telephone number 38, received from a calling party and stored in a memory of a radiotelephone device 10, the received number 38 is edited to produce an edited telephone number 39 containing any prefix 40 necessary to place the call. The edited telephone number 39 is produced by inserting before the received telephone number 38, numeric digits forming the prefix 40. The digits 40 may be recalled from memory 16 or inserted manually. The edited telephone number may also be produced by comparing the received telephone number 38 with trailing digits of stored repertory numbers 52, where the associated repertory number is recalled to produce the edited number. Means are also provided to delete any overlap of digits arising from the insertion of a prefix 40.
