Abstract:
From a mobile station (125) a signal is sent that is compatible with a first communication system and at the same time a further signal is sent compatible with another communication system. The further signal is received and processed by a base station (136). Components in the mobile station are provided for sending a narrow band signal (AMPS) during communication with a spread spectrum communication system. The latter has code-division multiple access (CDMA). Components are available for processing the narrow band signal for the purpose of communication transfer in the mobile station (125) from the spread spectrum communication system to a narrow band communication system. Other mobile stations which send a spread spectrum signal refrain from transmission while the mobile station (125) is sending a narrow band signal (AMPS).
Abstract:
A method of reducing an audio gap in a signal connection with a communication unit during handoff in a cellular communication system is provided. The method includes the steps of providing a temporary signal connection with the communication unit from a mobile switching center (MSC) of a source base site, through the source base site to a handoff target base site and establishing a trunk connection from the MSC of the source base site to a MSC of the target base site. The method further includes the step of interconnecting, at the target base site, the temporary signal connection, trunk connection, and communication unit; and re-routing the signal connection with the communication unit through the trunk connection.
Abstract:
An AMPS system facilitates reception and processing of a DS CDMA signal transmitted by a mobile station (125). The AMPS system provides an alternate path for the signal to be received by a DS CDMA receiver (506) system. The DS CDMA receiver system generates a signal compatible with the AMPS system, adjusts the generated signal to be proportional to the DS CDMA signal and inputs the adjusted signal (510) into the AMPS system. The AMPS system then processes the adjusted signal for purposes of handoff of the mobile station (125) from the DS CDMA system to the AMPS system.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method is provided for adjusting a Quality of Service (QoS) for a communication device in a communication network. One step includes registering an application from a service provider with the communication device and the communication network. Another step includes receiving, by the communication device, a token from a token provider that permits a modified QoS level for the registered application. Another step includes sending the token by the communication device to the communication network. Another step includes negotiating the QoS level between the service provider and the communication device, dependent at least in part on the reception of the token. Another step includes providing, for the communication device, the modified QoS level permitted by the token for the registered application.
Abstract:
A system [100] is provided that includes a Model-Based Translation Layer [200] to accept an input event being formed in any of a pre-determined set of languages and protocols, and output an output message having a common language and protocol. The system [100] also includes a State Processing Layer [300] to (a) parse the output message to determine an event, an externally perceived state of the event, and an internally perceived state of the event; (b) determine a type of the event; (c) determine whether the externally perceived state of the event is substantially equivalent to the internally perceived state of the event; and (d) invoke policy control to lookup action functions to address the event in response to determining that a combination of the type of the event and the externally perceived state of the event is determined to be valid.
Abstract:
Power control in a spread-spectrum communication system takes place by determining origination power of a traffic channel based on a number of active demodulators and pilot channel signal quality (610). Once origination transmit power is determined and call origination takes place, the transmit power is reduced at a first rate when a time is less than a time for all active demodulators to be established (615), otherwise the transmit power is reduced at a second rate (621). After all active demodulators have been acquired power control takes place by receiving a Power Measurement Report Message (PMRM) or a Pilot Strength Measurement Message (PSMM), determining, a signal quality metric existing at the remote unit based on the PMRM or PSMM, and adjusting transmit power based on the signal quality metric (645).
