Abstract: A selective call terminal (10) receives selective call information from a message originator. A transmission time is scheduled for the selective call message by a selective call system controller (12'). A plurality of simulcast schedulers (45) coupled to the controller receive and store the selective call message and the transmission time. The simulcast schedulers (45) have an equalization time stored therein, the equalization times for each of the simulcast schedulers (45) calculated by the system controller (12') using simulcast receivers (50) for measuring signal time differences between transmitters (15'). The simulcast schedulers (45) provide the selective call message to corresponding transmitters (15') at a time to transmit the selective call message, the time determined by the transmission time and the equalization time. Transmitter settings and code types defining signalling protocol, data bit rate, carrier frequency and transmitter power, for each message are varied in accordance with information received from the system controller (12'). Each simulcast scheduler (45) can also function as a selective call terminal for a local selective call system.

Abstract: A selective call receiver (106) receives a radio frequency signal having digital signals contained within symbols. The signal demodulated by the receiver (804) comprises a substantially constant DC offset voltage and an AC voltage (1810) indicative of the information contained within the symbols. A threshold level extraction circuit (808) which extracts the offset voltage is synchronously controlled (1840) providing for sampling of the received signal by the threshold level extraction circuit in substantially the center of each symbol.

Abstract: A communication receiver (106) receives an address code word (1800) of a transmitted message, the message comprising the address code word (1800) and an associated data portion (1610), the address code word comprising an address portion (1802,1804). The communication receiver (106) corrects (2104) up to a predetermined number of bit errors in the received address code word (1800). The communication receiver (106) can conserve power following a failed correction of the address code word (1800). Alternatively, the communication receiver (106) compares (2108,2111) the address portion (1802,1804) of the corrected address code word (1800) to at least one predetermined subscription address (1704,1706). The communication receiver (106) can conserve power following a determination of no match (2110,2114,2308) between the address portion (1802,1804) of the corrected address code word (1800) and the at least one predetermined subscription address (1704,1706).
