PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and apparatus for indicating to a communication unit a plurality of modulation and coding schemes (MCSs) to be utilized for communication. SOLUTION: A first MCS is determined for first resource blocks to be sent to a first remote unit or base station, and a second MCS is determined for a second resource block to be sent to the remote unit or base station; and a message is transmitted, indicating the first and the second MCS and also indicating the first resource blocks and the second resource block. Finally, a first PDU is transmitted to the remote unit or base station at a first time, by using the first MCS, and the first resource blocks and a second PDU is transmitted to the remote unit or base station at the first time, by using the second MCS and the second resource block. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a problem that a mechanism for a single resource allocation and a mechanism capable of allocating resources based on demands of each of user equipment are required in the case of a frame or a transmission time interval (TTI) constituted of a chain of sub-frames. SOLUTION: The present invention relates to a method in a wireless communication terminal (103) including receiving a plurality of sub-frames having time-frequency resource elements and resource allocation fields associated with a corresponding sub-frame, wherein the resource allocation fields indicate a resource assignment. In another embodiment, the terminal receives a radio frame comprising a plurality of sub-frames and a frequency diverse allocation field indicating frequency diverse resource allocations in multiple sub-frames of the radio frame. A method for providing a low-feedback scheme for link-quality reporting based on the EESM technique is provided herein. During operation, a node will analyze the current channel conditions and determine a non-linear approximation of the carrier to interference plus noise ratio (CINR). The non-linear approximation is sent to a communication unit as a channel-selectivity report, causing the communication unit to utilize the report to assist with modulation and coding selection.
Abstract:
A method in a wireless communication device may include receiving a plurality of sub-frames, each sub-frame having time-frequency resource elements, at least one of the sub-frames having a control channel. In some implementations, the plurality of sub-frames forms a continuum of concatenated sub-frames. Each of the plurality of resource allocation fields of the control channel may indicate a resource assignment to the wireless communication device based on a channel quality report, as well as resource assignments in sub-frames of the continuum of concatenated sub-frames. At least one sub-frame of the continuum of concatenated sub-frames may include information indicating that at least some of the resource assignments are frequency diverse.

A method and apparatus for control channel transmission and reception is provided herein. In particular, the use of a partitioned and structured control channel is provided that leverages the benefits of common control while maintaining favorable aspects of dedicated control. During operation, control information is distributed over a number of partitions (201). Each Pi is encoded (607) with monotonically non-increasing reliability level. Control information for a given remote unit can be distributed on one or several partitions, from P1 to Pk, where Pk is encoded with the lowest reliability level that can be decodable by the remote unit at an acceptable error rate.

Narrowband remote units (101-103) scan over frequencies within a wideband channel spectrum, evaluating frequency-selective channel characteristics. Th e best sub-channel(s) for communication is determined and reported back to a base station (104) via a channel-quality report message. The base station th en utilizes only a narrowband portion, for example, one sub-channel comprised o f a plurality of OFDM subcarriers, of the wideband channel for transmitting da ta to the narrowband unit.

Communications sourced by a remote unit ( 14 ) that is already within reception range of a base site ( 10 ) can nevertheless be further facilitated through allocation of one or more relay resources ( 15, 16 ). Such relay resources, properly employed, then serve to effectively increase the quality of service for the facilitated communication. This, in turn, can permit the use of, for example, increased data rates for communications from a relatively low power remote unit.
