Abstract: The power supply voltage for an RF amplifier 126 is increased to reduce transmitter distortion when nonlinearity is detected 125. If the amplifier supply voltage has been raised to the largest voltage possible but distortion remains then the input signals are attenuated 108,110. The power supply voltage for the amplifier 126 is modulated in correspondence with the amplitude of the input signal, thereby increasing efficiency. The nonlinearity detector 125 monitors the ratio of the RMS out-of-band and in-band signals at the output of the baseband loop filters (figure 2).
