PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a wireless device (100) to provide a coordinated audio playback. SOLUTION: The device (100) includes a network interface (112) that receives a signal from a sending or originating device (401) and sends a reply to the signal. A network delay value is then calculated based on the reply to the signal. The wireless device (100) then receives a location of the originating device (401) and at least a portion of an audio file. The wireless device (100) generates audio from the audio file, with the generation being coordinated with audio generation by the originating device (401) based upon the network delay value and the distance between the wireless device (100) and the originating device (401). Abstract:
A portable radio telephone is adapted to provide hands free operation and to be held against a users ear for private operation. A housing 348 of the portable radio telephone has an ear placement region on a front surface 346 thereof. A speaker 340 is disposed behind the ear placement region. The ear placement region is adapted to be held against a user's ear in private operation and create a first air volume 360 between the ear and the ear placement region. An air path between the first air volume and a second air volume 370 at the back surface of the housing, in one embodiment (Fig. 5) this includes at least ports 320,220 and cavity 352. In another embodiment (Fig. 6) the speaker is spaced back from the front surface of the housing and the airpath runs from the cavity so created via ports 338,220 and cavity 352. A layer of felt 344 may be provided to prevent the ingress of contaminants.

Disclosed are passive acoustic structures, portable audio devices configured for use with the passive acoustic structures and methods for enhancing the frequency output of a speaker of a portable device configured for use with a disclosed passive acoustic structure. The disclosed portable audio device may include an opening proximal a speaker cavity of the device, a shutter or door to open and close the opening so that the device interoperates with a docking station of a passive acoustic structure including a labyrinth or a transmission line system that may increase the frequency range of the system. For an end user to experience the music and multimedia features of a portable audio device, and in particular a mobile communication device, the above-described passive acoustic structure may provide a bass enhancement for the typically small loudspeaker of a portable audio device with no additional loudspeaker and therefore no additional circuitry.

An intelligent noise reduction system (100) is provided. The system can include a gradient microphone (110) to produce a gradient speech signal, a correction unit (116) to de-emphasize a high frequency gain imparted by the gradient microphone, a Voice Activity Detector 120 (VAD) to determine portions of speech activity (701) and portions of noise activity (702) in the gradient speech signal, an Automatic Gain Control 130 (AGC) unit to adapt a speech gain (740) of the gradient speech signal to minimize variations in speech signal levels, and a controller (140) to control the speech gain applied by the AGC to the portions of noise activity to preserve a speech to noise level ratio between speech activity and noise activity in the gradient speech signal.

Un sistema, método, y aparato para separar la señal de voz de un ambiente acústico ruidoso. El proceso de separación puede incluir filtración bidireccional, separación de fuente ciega, y supresor de ruido de sustracción espectral de entrada doble. Los canales de entrada pueden incluir dos micrófonos omnidireccionales cuya salida se procesa utilizando filtración de retraso de fase para formar formas de haz de voz y ruido. Además, las formas de haz pueden ser de frecuencia corregida. Los micrófonos omnidireccionales generan un canal que substancialmente es únicamente ruido, y otro canal que es una combinación de ruido y voz.
