Abstract:
A method and apparatus facilitates location tracking of a portable subscriber unit (122) in a radio communication system including a plurality of cells for providing radio communications with the portable subscriber unit (122). The plurality of cells are partitioned into subzones (402), a subzone (402) comprising at least one cell and utilizing at least one control channel. Each subzone (402) is assigned one of N subzone color codes (606). Adjacent subzones (402) have different subzone color codes (522), and same-valued subzone color codes (522) are reused in non-adjacent subzones (606). Control information is transmitted throughout each subzone (402) on the control channel (608) by a fixed portion (102) of the radio communication system. The control information includes the subzone color code (522) of the subzone (402). The portable subscriber unit (122) detects changes in the subzone color code (522), and thereafter, registers with the fixed portion (102) of the radio communication system in response.
Abstract:
An access point ( 102 ) conveys ( 202 ) to communication units ( 104 ) of a plurality of multicast groups, a first indication that the access point supports a method for sending a multicast message. The access point receives ( 204 ) a multicast message directed to a receiving one of the plurality of multicast groups, and determines ( 206 ) that the communication units belonging to the receiving one of the plurality of multicast groups also support the method. The access point signals ( 208 ) a second indication to selectively awaken the communication units belonging to the receiving one of the plurality of multicast groups, and transmits ( 210 ) the multicast message to the receiving one of the plurality of multicast groups in a manner that allows ( 212 ) at least one communication unit not belonging to the receiving one of the plurality of multicast groups to remain asleep during the transmitting.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for passing a message at a gateway between a first network and second network. A message is received from the first network. Header information is added to the message indicative of an address associated with the gateway. Header information is added to the message indicative of an address associated with the first network. The message is forwarded from the gateway to the second network.
Abstract:
An electronic device (41), method (500) and communications network (45). When the electronic device (41) is communicating with said another party's device (49) over the communications network (45), a close proximity signal received is processed when there is an identifiable electronic device (43) in close proximity thereto. In response to the close proximity signal, the device (41) determines if a transfer request signal is to be generated indicative of the identifiable electronic device (43) being a potential replacement for the electronic device (41).
Abstract:
A method and system for presenting a presentation (203) to an audience. Audience information is associated with the members of teh audience and used to determined one or more audience characteristics based on the information and thereby selecting one of a plurality of presentation formats in accordance with the one or more audience characteristics.
Abstract:
A selective call device for receiving a signal having an address portion and a message portion, the message portion having sub-messages, includes a receiver, a message memory for storing sub-messages, and address correlator and a decoder for determining whether the signal is directed to the selective call device and whether the signal includes a Delete Command having parameters that identify a portion of a sub-message, or an Insert Command having an additional portion and parameters that identify a location in a sub-message. In response to a Delete Command, the selective call device decreases size of a sub-message (801) stored in the message memory by erasing the identified portion of the sub-message (802). In response to an Insert Command, the selective call device increases size of a sub-message (802) stored in message memory by adding the additional portion to the sub-message at the identified location (803).
