    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To impact synthesize even a material having a metastable phase which cannot be frozen by generating dilution waves whose pressure is completely zero when shock waves are propagated to the back face of a sample and subjecting the sample in a compressed state to rapid adiabatic expansion. SOLUTION: A sample 2 is put in a recovery vessel 3 for protecting it from the breakage due to impact waves, and the recovery vessel 3 is housed in a housing body 1 for housing and protecting it, and the sample 2 is covered with a screw cap 4. On the other hand, a flying body 8 for generating shock waves consists of a servo 6 and a metal flying plate 7. The flying body 8 is accelerated by powder or an explosive to hit it against the recovery vessel 3. By providing a sufficient void 5 on the back face of the sample 2, dilution waves whose pressure is completely zero is generated when shock waves are propagated to the back face of the sample 2 in a process for releasing from a compressed state instantaneously generated by shock waves to subject the sample in a compressed state to rapid adiabatic expansion.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a diamond powder in a high yield under low impact pressure by an impact compression method. CONSTITUTION:When diamond is synthesized by utilizing a high temp. and high pressure state instantaneously generated by an impact wave, fullerite with a particle size of 10mum or less is used as a carbon source and a non-carbonizable metal powder is mixed with fullerite so that the metal powder becomes a ratio of 50wt.% or more and the resulting mixture is subjected to pressure molding to be set to 30% or more in its voids and the molding is subjected to impact compression treatment under conditions such that impact pressure is 10GPa or higher impact temp. is 1000 deg.C or higher and an impact compression time is 0.1 microsec or more. The carbon source is based on fullerite C60 and may contain a small amt. of fullerite C70.

CONSTITUTION:After the low-pressure phase boron nitride powder having =1musec pressurization time. The cubic boron nitride powder can be synthesized from only the low-pressure phase boron nitride powder as a starting raw and the need for the treatment to remove the metal or the laborious treatment to separate the cubic boron nitride powder from wurtzite type boron nitride is eliminated according to this method, therefore, the cubic boron nitride powder is produced at the low cost.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To prepare diamond powder inexpensively by press-molding a mixture of a carbonate with reducing metal powder, and exerting impact compression to the press-molded body. CONSTITUTION:A carbonate (e.g., CaCO3) having =67mol.% the metal basing on the amt. of the mixture. The powder mixture 4 is filled in a stainless steel sample vessel 3, and the powder in the vessel 3 is compressed to 20% void by pressing with a press. Threads 5, 6 of the vessel 3 are then fastened. The vessel 3 is inserted into an insertion hole located at a center of a housing vessel 2 made of iron, and the whole body is laid in a ring 1 constructing thus a recovery assembly. A shock wave is generated by colliding a flying body accelerated by a single stage powder gun, and the shock wave is made to penetrate through the sample. Diamond powder is prepd. inexpensively by exerting 100-500Kbar impact compression to the molded body by this method.
